shot blocking

We've seen some great shot blockers in college - Ewing, Mutumbo, Okafor, Mourning, Duncan, Foyle, et al.

But do I have selective memory or is CO unique in his ability to consistently keep the ball in play? I certainly don't remember anyone else doing it nearly as often. And when he keeps it in play, most of the time we gain possession...

Just from watching the games I think he has gotten a lot better at keeping it in play this year. Really important improvement.

I wouldn't say he keeps it in play more than others. And to be honest the fact he's good for 4 points each game with goaltends still bothers me. Not trying to be negative but giving away points like that bothers me. You don't have to block everything in sight. We see how many ugly shots opponents put up just by his presence.

Really want to see him back for another year. He can be really special and really high pick if he stays for Sr year

Ewing did it in purpose to intimidate
and it worked. He did it to UNC at the
start of the championship game.

It is a nice weapon.

I'm sure it worked back then. Now playing above the rim is far too common. Blocking a shot before it goes in does nothing IMO. And can hurt you.

I think it works extremely well for intimidation. I see offensive guys in the post quadruple pumping like Zendon because of Obekpa's imposing presence. The most impressive thing is both Obekpa and Dom's ability to block off the ball and even on a fast break. Another team with numbers on the break isn't an automatic made bucket with those guys. I also love how Delarosa gives us that defensive big body to allow Obekpa to defend the PF and play of the other team's center.

I have to credit our swarming interior defense doubling down on the ball for a lot of our blocked shots. When an offensive player in the post is harassed and distracted trying to protect the ball, their attention from CO or even Dom is diverted and it results in a rushed shot that gets swatted.
