Short Documentary - Joe Lapchick

There's a statue of Coach Lapchick in the video, which brings me to ask: What ever become of the kibg-overdue statue of Coach that was supposed to be unveiled outside of CA a couple of years ago? Just asking.

Sitting in storage because powers that be can't figure out where to put it as either Pres or Adm wants it in the practice facility (Taffner) while others are holding out for a more well deserved prominent place.

Unbelievable! As for it's location, seems like a no-brainer that it should be standing directly in front of CA.

What a shame. Jerseyshorejohnny busted his arse On this . And many die hard fans donated money towards this.We are St. John's.

Keeping a statue of Joe Lapchick from being displayed is just short of taking down any displays of St Vincent DePaul or John the Baptist! The SJU Management totally screwed up Lapchick's Retirement from St John's as they had done in letting Frank McGuire get away to N. Carolina years earlier. But, I digress, there should be a onslaught of protest and communication to the Administration from those on this Board and JJ requesting nicely, that the BIG INDIAN get his proper due as part of his Legacy and contribution to St John's Basketball history!

As a Celtic fan, the shot of Red Auerbach under the commentary on racist administration in the NBA is akin to a picture of Manute Bol under the heading short people. The Celtics hiring of Cliff Cook was simultaneous with the hiring of Nat Clifton and depending on whether you count contract signing or on-court appearance as the true integration first, the Celtics and the Knicks broke the color barrier about the same time. We know who has more championships. Is the filmmaker Coach's great granddaughter?

Totally agree about the misleading showing of Red Auerbach's photo during commentary on the NBA's racist policies. Was never a Celtics fan, but in addition to their signing Cliff Cook, Auerbach was the first NBA coach to start three black players (Bill Russell, KC Jones, Sam Jones) at a time when many teams had no more than two black players on their rosters. He also made Russell the league's first black head coach. (Ironic, considering the same city's MLB team was one of the last to integrate.) That said, I don't think the filmmaker was intentionally taking a shot at Auerbach. Rather, the piece was poorly produced, with a good deal of photos and vintage film that didn't complement the audio we were hearing.

They want to put the statue of Joe in the practice facility? Jesus, when will they get something right? It really ought to stand in the plaza outside of the Carnesseca arena, or at least in the lobby. Same with the Indian.

Should we get an invite to some kind of post season tournament and get a home game perhaps we could do this . Have some type of demonstration in the plaza in front of CA bringing this issue to the attention of the SJU fans .

Unfortunately if you Occupy Utopia it ceases to be a utopia.

Since we dropped the Redmen nickname, the Board of Trustees feels uncomfortable honoring someone nicknamed the "Big Indian".

Can easily be changed to the Big Thunder.
