Sadly, when Shelton came to St. John's he was played out of position and used more as a power forward instead of a two or three which he was capable of playing. I think it hurt his game and hindered his potential career at the next level. Back then in Looie's system, not many 6'8" kids would be played at any position other then a 4 or 5.
In what universe is Shelton Jones a 2 guard?
The strength of the 84-85 team was shown by Jones , a top 25 recruit couldn’t get meaningful minutes.
Ironically the seats my friend and I had were pretty much the same exact seats as where my season tix are for on campus nowThe best memory I have of Shelton is he killed it at my first ever st johns came when he scored I think 31 points at Alumni and we beat I think providence. mjmaherjr verballed to St Johns that night
I’ll never forget when Shelton drove the baseline from the corner and Lou screamed at him “Where are you going” a 6’9 player dribbling the ball was frowned upon by Luigi LOLTrue but in seasons after when he played allot, he was played out of his natural position.
