Shannan Lum was just hired as Recruiting Coordinator at Nebraska making her one of the few women in administrative positions at a Power 5 school.
From Forbes:After working as a grassroots coach in the San Francisco area, she attended St. John’s and served as a student manger for the women’s basketball team. She then “begged and pleaded” to get an interview for a manager position under Chris Mullin, then the St. John’s men’s coach.“I was sleeping on the women’s players’ couch at one point just to interview” with the men’s team, she said of the 2016 experience. Mullin felt a kinship with Lum in part because of her ties to the Bay Area, where he played with the Golden State Warriors.
It was at St. John’s that Lum got to know current Nebraska assistant Matt Abdelmassih and director of operations Luca Virgilio, both of whom left St. John’s for Nebraska after Hoiberg was hired. Lum is in the process of moving to Lincoln, Neb. from San Francisco to begin the next phase of her career. Though she will not start as a coach on the floor, she will assist in game planning, writing scouting reports, implementing a creative and organized approach to maximizing the effectiveness of the N.C.A.A. Transfer Portal, and managing all creative designs in regards to communication with recruits.
