Delgado is a grown man, he will be a problem for us. He has been playing great this year. This will be a tough one. Hopefully we show some fight and give it our best shot. No shame in dropping this one on the road though, they are the class of the league along with Nova and Xavier. They better enjoy it because next year it'll be payback time.;)

I feel like if we get Lovett back we can steal this one ( even without Shamorie), but without Lovett this is going to be brutal.

IMO, assuming Ponds plays at full strength, SH represents a better matchup for us than Providence. Without Lovett, we had nobody to match Cartwright’s quickness. Other than Cartwright, Providence has pretty good length with guys (Bullock, Diallo, Lindsay) who can shoot over our perimeter defenders (except Simon). So, when they’re on and especially when we leave them open, they can be tough for us. No guarantee that Lovett would have changed outcome, but Cartwright would not have had free reign to penetrate and dish with little resistance. His scoring was an anomaly. It was his 15 assists that really hurt.

I like SH. However, while better than PC, they don’t have the breakdown guard and don’t have as many tall perimeter scorers. I think our defense can hold up against them better than it did against PC. Delgado presents huge challenge. But, we beat them last year (albeit at MSG) and while odds are not great can do it again.

Again, assumes Ponds at full strength and rest of team playing well

Don't expect too much time from LoVett upon his return, whenever that is. He will need to get in game shape & will only be effective in short spurts I would think. That said, it is a plus to reduce Trimble's PT & get some experience out there. Circle the wagons, this will be a challenge.

The silver lining to all of this is that it is appearing more and more likely that one or both of LoVett and a Ponds will return next year.

Not writing this season off by any means and am sick of always looking toward the future, but that would be a positive development.

Next year we should have some talented bigs and good depth assuming no significant defections.

Trimble has been disappointing. When Wilson left, I recall reading that staff was high on Trimble and that Trimble would have taken the majority of Wilson’s minutes had Wilson stayed.

I’m not sure if that’s a testimate to how poor Wilson was practicing or whether it was spin. Regardless, Trimble appears to be a one trick pony who is not very good at performing his trick!

I know that many on here are down in Sid Wilson and I do not like what happened with him either. That doesn't make him a bad basketball player. He was a 4 star recruit for a reason.

I wasn’t disparaging Sid Wilson. I’ve never seen him play.

It is a shame that we'll probably start 0-3, and yeah it's always next year, right?

I never expected a NCAA birth this year, but if no NIT atleast, then this year is a bust for Mullin.
NIT would be improvement from last year right? I don't even care about what the record will be, just get in the NIT.
Get post season experience for next year.

Good points. But if Ponds and LoVett are out for the next month, we may be 11-11 at that point. I guess we can hope for a scintillating finish to the Season!

Understand that we don't know if Lovett would have helped us much if he played, but he would have produced, something in the second half when it came to guard-play. Last night, we couldn't defend the perimeter because of their shots (as you mentioned)...Lindsey was taking moonshots over our guys. You're absolutely right, the assists were killer. I think you have a point that our defense can hold up, and honestly, I have a feeling that Delgado may not play as well as he thinks. He may look at SJU as a potential "push-over" game and may overlook the essentials that he has shown clearly so far this season.

Fingers crossed for Ponds, apparently was going to have a MRI today according to Braziller.

He is not ready yet but that's not his fault he is freshman that was a 3 star recruit. He needs more time. He needs to look at Myles Powell and how he transformed himself, they seem like very similar players coming in. They both are mostly 3 pt shooters who needed to lose weight. Trimble is a pretty good rebounder for a guard too. I think Powell said he stopped drinking soda and drank just water and ate more veggies, that should be the plan for him.

Sucks he left but I agree. I think he has very high upside and if he develops right could play in the nba with his combination of size, length and athleticism on the wing.

Screw Sid "Vicious" Wilson! He fckd us royally and is the major reason we have next to zero depth. Not restricting his transfer options was typically bone headed on Mullin's part. Trimble doesn't come close to making up for the loss of a talented wing player since he is a guard who is a tad slow. Having 2 sit out transfers also hurts the depth chart. We should never have 2 transfers sitting ever again. As for the upcoming games I am not optimistic that we win more than one of the next 5. Even with a healthy Lovett and Ponds winning any of the next 3 games would have been a challenge. If one or both cannot play or give 100% we are double digit underdogs.

If we have any hope of making the tournament, then we must win at least 1 of these next 2. When I saw the schedule, always figured starting out 1-2 in the first 3 was likely. So if we can win one of these, we'd be back on track in my eyes. Losing to a ranked team on the road is never a bad loss, more of a lost opportunity. But unfortunately now the position we're in, it's more of a must win.

I agree.
Unless the other 11 spots on the roster are filled and one of those are not named ---- ----------- and the two sit outs are high caliber. Kansas has done this and done pretty well.

Plus it has worked out great for us with Simon and Clark. Filling 11 spots with eligible players is more than enough to have comfortable depth.
