Scholarship Question

I've read that Rysheed Jordan will be using the scholarship that was freed up when Amir Garrett decided to transfer. I thought I read on here in the past that Garrett was not on scholarship because the Cincinnati Reds were paying for him to attend college as long as he was under contract with them. Was that correct? If so is it possibly Harrison's scholarship that is being used? Can someone clarify?

Garrett counted as a scholarship player at St John's
Jordan is taking his 'ship

Gotcha, works for me. I guess the only question that remains to be answered is when will an actual decision be made regarding Harrison. Given that there is no official word on his status (although everything seems to point that he will be back), in theory that could open up another ship.

I thought we had an extra scholarship because of God's Gift leaving for harvard

Where did you hear that?

First I've heard of that.

There was a rumor on here about a month ago to that effect, but I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere.

I know of no rumor. Harvard was identified as bringing in a freshman Nigerian big man who has played high school ball in California (don't remember his name). Gift is reported to be a high academic achiever who will graduate this Spring. My understaanding is Gift has the option to use his one remaining year of eligibility to play as a graduate student for any number of schools that offer majors not available at STJ.

Harvard brings in Zena Edosomwan, a top 100 6'9 big man from Cali who is very, very good. He prepped as a 5th-year senior this year to bring up his grades. Harvard also returns all of its forwards and centers from a 20-win (yet again) tournament team team, including its leading scorer who started at the four for them. Actually, Harvard, which was an incredibly young team, brings back every single player that played in more than one game with the exception of one guard.

From a purely basketball perspective, it makes no sense for GG to transfer to Harvard. They play very small and they have young bigs all over the roster competing for just one spot alongside their leading scorer at the four--who plays over 37 minutes a game! GG would have to learn an entirely different system and develop chemistry with a group that is returning all but one player. Of course, basketball isn't the only consideration here :)

I like GG and I really want him back. He is big, he is experienced, and he can run with our guards. He is a terrific fourth option up front and there will be minutes for everyone if we play at a fast pace.

I am looking forward to having G.G. back Let's face it, we had no replacement when Obekpa got in foul trouble or needed a breather. God's Gift will be a valuable asset to next year's team in more ways then one.
