Rutgers Hires Eddie Jordan

All things considered, I think that's a pretty good hire for RU. They really couldn't have expected anyone more qualified / better to take the job considering their current position and remaining unanswered questions (AD / potential NCAA penalties/ etc). No coach of his caliber would have accepted that job without being an alumni.

Now, lets see if he can recruit - both potential defections and incoming HS players. Not as easy as it looks for many coaches with NBA pedigree.

Good hire for them. Now, good riddance.

i remember watching jordan play at rutgers . He was a very steady player and floor leader . i compare him to mark Jackson at SJU .

Except no one ever thought of nicknaming Jackson "Fast Markie."

failed as a coach before, without recruiting.

Coaching failures were in the pros where he did go to the playoffs 4 times.

Other present college coaches who "failed" in the pros:

Pitino, Calapari, Montgomery, Floyd, Kruger, Hamilton, Tarkanian.

Of course they all started as HCs in college not the other way around.

Now, as far as I am concerned, I have always hated Rutgers who has always thought they were a bigger in sports than they actually were. Spent the early years ridiculing Seton Hall saying that they should have been the team from NJ to be in the BE needing to put down another program in an attempt to get in. Funny thing is I have always said if they had a clue and hired the right people they might someday be where they think they are or should be. I personally hope they fail measurably and hope the doors not only hits them on their way out but knocks them out.

So, Easy Eddie never got a degree from Rutgers? *grabs popcorn*

About that due diligence: Despite all the accolades he’s received from the university and despite the school’s many claims to the contrary, Jordan hasn’t actually finished his degree, according to the Rutgers registrar’s office. The office sent me a verification document, found below, that indicates that Jordan attended classes at Rutgers from 1973 to 1977. He went on to take more classes in 1978, 1981, and 1985. There was no degree listed in the document. I called up the registrar’s office on Thursday and asked for clarification.

“He did not receive a degree from us,” an official there told [Koblin].

Very sad and another embarassement to the University which they had to know but hoped it would not come out.
They continue to get what they desire.

So Eddie Jordan spend time taking classes over 7 or 8 years and took something like 200 credits ?

Honestly the only person I know who has spent that much time taking classes is Marillac. At least we know Marillac has graduated

He was there so long they named a building after him.

No Big East school has contributed less & taken more than Rutgers. This will continue as they move on to the Big Ten. Rutgers fans talk like they're some kind of national power based on a few years with a winning football record (still never won the conference or played in a major Bowl game) in a league that should've lost BCS status when Miami, Va Tech & Boston College left. Their out of conference schedule for the past ten years has been a joke. Syracuse schedules Notre Dame & USC, UConn schedules Notre Dame & Michigan, Rutgers schedules Kent State.

Rutgers is just lucky to be the biggest school in Metro NY, which brings benefits based on potential. I can't speak with a Rutgers fan for more than a few minutes before they start bashing every other school within 300 miles of them. Now they'll brag about playing in the Big Ten.
