Rutgers University has announced plans to raise $100 million for new or expanded athletic facilities.

Scarlet Knights athletic director Patrick Hobbs announced the campaign in a video sent to supporters of the university's sports programs Wednesday evening.

Hobbs says he, football coach Chris Ash and basketball coach Eddie Jordan are donating $50,000 to provide state-of-the-art practice centers for basketball, wrestling, volleyball and gymnastics plus key support areas for football, lacrosse, soccer and tennis.

Hobbs says every coach and senior administrator plans to make a pledge to the R Big Ten Build program.

In actuality, isn't that a $50,000 salary reduction? Kind of like Al D'Amatos mandatory 1% kickback scheme in the 70s in Nassau County. Just a thought - charitable giving should be elective and of free will and conscience. If any employer pressures employees to donate back to the enterprise, it really ceases to become charitable in a sense. I also am of the mindset that charity should be done quietly and humbly. Advertising what large donors have contributed does encourage others to give, but it also brings attention to the giver as well.
