Wood’s move appears to have little to do with Lavin’s health and more with his chances of meeting NCAA academic requirements for freshman participation. A source familiar with his recruiting told the Daily News, “It could come right down to the wire.”
Than why is the headline what it is So annoying
I think you hit the nail on the head. Not a bad article just a bad headline.while the de-committ is obviously disappointing, and I hope its not a continuing trend, it could be a blessing in disguise. If SJU had another recruit ruled academically ineligible it might create a negative prejudice about the program after having 3 such rulings in 2011. Don't want to generate that kind of reputation for the School or for recruiting.
wasn't Rubin supposed to have agood relationship with Lavin? The negative headline sounds more like Lenn Robbins style.Any possible recruits could easily be turned off by the headline especially if they bypass reading the extent of the article
Or sensationalize the headline to grab more readersJust to reaffirm the point...As a very widely followed practice,
at newspapers the reporters do not write the headlines.
Frequently, they are written by staff that are not familiar with the issue but
craft it based on their read of the article submitted.
