Nothing new but not the kind of news you want to see in major papers while recruiting.

But he has told friends that he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to return to the bench this season and, in a story published in Wednesday’s Los Angeles Times, Lavin said it remains unclear whether he’ll be able to or not.

this can't help against the sharks he's recruiting against.

get well coach!!

Agreed. He has to put his health first. If he's not coming back this year, doesn't seem much sense to keep recruiting Gathers though, as his concern over Lavin's health issues have been noted as a significant factor. If Lavs isn't prepared to come back, he must be prepared for the likelihood of an underwhelming recruiting class and potential setbacks along the way. I sincerely hope he makes his was back on the court before the end of the month, and it is for good... Get well coach.

If you go about it in the right way Coach things always work out.  Keep following the doctor's suggestions - we need you for the long haul.

I see this as nothing that we did not know or sumize. first and foremost Lavin's health is his number one concern. Maybe not coaching this year is best for both Lavin and st. john's. It gives him really another 8-10 to fully recover, but allows him to recruit. I think recruits know his situation and Lavin can proobly assure them that he will be at full strength next year. I am also pretty sure this years team also know that and will take learning with the rest of the coaching staff a first step. Everyone know that we need to get more players and Lavin is in the process of doing so.

If there are "sharks" out there who are going to play this out and make it seem like Lavin will not coach again, then albeit. You cant stop people from saying whatever, true or false. What you have to hope is that kids and their families believe in Coach Lavin and want their sons to play for a great coach at a great university.

I hear what you're saying Cavalier, until coach is back on the sidelines(or at least running practice) there are going to be concerns on the part of the recruits and their families, with or without the "sharks" making an issue out of it. And rest assured that the sharks will all at least broach the subject. Even if it's to say "no one knows for certain whether coach Lavin will be back on the sidelines next year". I have to admit, I have my own concerns. Obviously his health is far, far more important than anything else and God willing he's healthy and he'll be back on the sidelines at the start of next season. But this prolonged absence can't be helping the recruiting process. .

I would think he would want to back coaching by the UCLA game at MSG on Feb. 18. Hopefully, his recovery will be nearly complete by then for the doctors to allow it.

"it takes as long as it takes" and this thing will not hide until the Coach is back etc. gossip

one never knows do one

as many have posted his health is #1, Ws this year and recruiting is #2

I would find it hard to believe that he is espousing anything but the truth - on his practice appearances, recruiting and pacing himself - could even be a blessing with all the extra time he is spending on the trail; the those kids who want to come will- and we don't need that many each year etc.

I still believe he will be here for the long term, healthy and successful, likely even more motivated and appreciative of this opportunity - and we of our good fortune to have him lead the pack

all the best
