I'm sure he'll have a ton of tweets, so I figured having a separate thread for it would be the proper thing to do.

Greetings from Jamaica. Here for St. John's workouts. Year two of the Chris Mullin era. #SJUBB

@JonRothstein: "Tennessee transfer Tariq Owens just told me that he's 6'11" and just 195 pounds. Someone needs to take this kid to Campagnola"

@JonRothstein: "St John's went Mike Brey in adding Justin Simon and Marvin Clark - "get old and stay old!!" Both should start in 17-18.

He also praised the physical shape of a couple of our guys.

Kassoum Yakwe has added 15 pounds since April. Going to be virtually impossible to keep off the floor. Has his offense matured? #SJUBB

Bashir Ahmed is built like a fullback. Could be lethal as an undersized PF in the Big East. Will live at the free throw line. #SJUBB

Don't think so. Think he starts Ponds over Ahmed in 3 guard set, or Ponds over Ellison (though that would be a very small backcourt).

Early prediction on St. John's starting five: Marcus LoVett, Malik Ellison, Bashir Ahmed, Kassoum Yakwe, Yankuba Sima. #SJUBB

@JonRothstein: "The surprise here at St John's? German import Richard Freudenberg. Think a young German Gordon Heyward. Really skilled offensive player".

WOW!! What a huge compliment!!

I have no idea how St. John's will do in tight games or if it will be consistent, but this gym is loaded with high-major players. #SJUBB

Sounds like he had some nice things to say about some of our guys. Excellent. I really liked what he said about RF. Of course, I am basing on sight unseen but I figured it might take a year or two in the program for Der Kaiser (ok my nickname for RF) to have any impact. Sounds like he really liked what he saw at least on the offensive side of the ball. FWIW it is good to hear.

I like this starting five, with a second unit of Ponds, Mussini, RF, Amar, and Owens. We have some real depth and should be able to push the tempo.

Would not be surprised if Shamorie Ponds averaged in double-figures for the next four years. Cuttino Mobley type combo guard. #SJUBB

So much Cuttino Mobley in Shamorie Ponds.....#SJUBB

Each year brings more pressure for coach Mullin, especially after bringing in top recruits and transfers.

Thanks
He can handle it IMO; he's a winner; he came here to win; he's handle pressure and expectations at all levels...and in his personal life - that's what most of us sought: talent, pressure, the risks of losing and winning, being a competitive program after all these years.

Saw Chicago concert in Massachusetts this weekend and "I do believe we're getting stronger every day" is SJU. Stronger every season.

all the best.

I'd be glad to, it's right around the corner from me.

He would get as good a meal at Park Side in Corona just 15 minutes from the campus at one third the price. ;)

I guess they weighed him with his shoes on, cause the roster lists him at 200 lbs. Hoped he was going to come in with 30 which really is not that unrealistic if he was disciplined with aggressive eating and training over one year.

That said, looking forward to see how he does this year and hope he exceeds expectations.

Hakim Warrick style player, w/o his level of ability, not a center. Running floor & blocking some shots seem his best attributes. Hopefully he is a good sub, but IMO is not the impact player some posters were expecting. Hope he proves me wrong.

We really need improvement from Yawke and Sima. Amar and Tariq should be adequate for short stretches.

Don't think there is any sane scenario where Ahmed is not in the starting 5!

I hope I am right in interpreting Rothstein's comments that LoVett, Ellison and Ponds will all be playing more minutes than Mussini. A very important barometer of SJU's success next season.
