Ron Artest back on campus

He told the team "Win and this is your city" among obviously much more. Great to see him back home...I never understood why he wasn't a staple on campus. He is the only big time player from SJU who younger players will know. That means a lot. Obviously Mullin, Berry, and Jackson were great too, but Artest is a guy they grew up watching, not Mullin and Co.

He could have a big impact on recruits IMO taking some of them under his wing.

He looks great. I hope he can stay out of trouble and help the Knicks to a championship.

The school was afraid of its image after the whole "malice at the palace" incident and didn't really want to be associated with him. Also no one including mullin really didn't talk alot about st. john's until lavin was hired. Artest made a ton of poor decisions over his life but he is genuinely a good guy.

Spot on.
I truly believe Ron is an amazing person who has let his emotions get the better of him a few times on a very public stage.

I watched the palace incident live; Ron get a raw deal after that whole thing. I must say, hockey players have done far worse. Stern made an example out of him with disportional punishment IMHO. Not that what he did was okay.

Always loved his Big Heart!!

Ron is a good hearted person who has some behavioral health issues. When he was put on medication, he stopped taking them because it made him feel sluggish. Hopefully when his career is over, if he needs more medical treatment, he seeks it out and gets it. As an active NBA player who started alongside Kobe, he has perhaps more credibility than anyone else associated with St. John's. I expect that he will be a presence at MSG when his schedule allows.

Fans belong off the court, for certain, and there are ramifications for idiots that try to become part of the game, or a fracas. However, Ron made a huge mistake by going into the stands to pummel someone. On one hand, I agree that any athlete doesn't have to take that kind of abuse, verbal or otherwise, and in threads years past, I was a staunch advocate of spirited cheering, but not absurd profane behavior. On the other hand, Artest could have caused a riot, putting his teammates, himself, and fans at risk by escalating the violence by going into the stands.

It must be hell managing his mental health issues without medication if that is the case. I give him a lot of credit and am excited that he is a Knick.

The Knicks have home games on the 14th and 16th of December. I hope MWP makes it out to the Garden to see us take down Cuse. My guess is that he and Mello will both attend.

A few years ago at a cuse game at MSG both Jayson Williams and Derrick Coleman, who were Nets' teammates, had seats behind one of the baskets. The student section started chanting "Coleman Sucks" and Williams was cracking up and elbowing DC in the ribs. He took it well and waved to the crowd. Best part was we won that game.

If we won that game I guess it was more than a few years ago. :(

"Anthony and World Peace were asked if they plan on attending the Syracuse-St. John’s game Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks play homes games Dec. 14 and 16, and thus will be around for that contest between former Big East rivals.

“If we’re here I’ll go,” Anthony said. “Metta don’t want to talk about that, he wants to talk about a whole lot.”

He also said this:

World Peace said the Johnnies have “six pros.”

“I’m excited to see them play and to see a couple games when I have time,” he said.

I'm sure he will be there for at least a couple of games. His father still goes to most of the Garden games. I got called down to meet him last year at the ND game, as I was wearing my custom SJU World Peace jersey. He took a pic with me and supposedly texted it to Ron. I asked if he thought Ron would sign it, he said absolutely. Gave me his cell # and told me to call over the summer when Ron was playing his summer ball in NY. He said I could meet him and get it signed. I haven't called because I don't really want to bother them. But I'm wearing that Jersey to all the games in hopes of getting it signed.
