Roller coaster seasons....

I recognize that I am basing this off of my own neurosis, but I just wanted to make this request early in the season.

This board is always great, especially when things are going well, but I will ask that when we eventually lose a game (whether this season or in5 years), everyone tones down on the “sky is falling” frantic posts. I love that there are so many great, die-hard fans, and criticism is part of the game, but I find it especially depressing when there is an avalanche of unnecessary, overly negative sentiment and statements after a loss.

I try to teach my daughters that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Along those lines, while passion is an integral (and healthy) part of sports for both players and fans, I find that the extreme highs and lows are not good for anyone.

Sorry, not at all trying to preach, the post is largely just based on lessons leaned from being a die-hard fan of the program for 35+ years.

Sorry, I can't resist, even though I agree with what you are asking.

In my 35+ years as a die-hard, I've determined that criticism is at its lowest when the coaching looks solid and the effort from players is there, regardless of their talent level. It's really not much to ask, but we've often been left begging for one or the other (and both, in particularly bad years).

There are certain posters who will always complain. Some are professional trolls, some are legitimately neurotic or bipolar. But I think most of this board is and will continue to be reasonable.

LOL... This will never change. I agree with your sentiment about fans being overly pessimistic once a single thing goes wrong. But, fan is short for fanatic. Fans want everything perfect ALL the time. It is never, ever realistic. I love the Packers in football. I just finished reading, the defense stinks, they can’t stop the run, Aaron Rodgers has only won ONE Super Bowl, the receivers don’t get open. Did I mention their 8-2, lead their division and are currently 2nd in the entire NFC? I shudder to think what the Giants and Jets fans are thinking this morning.

My point is get some tougher skin and ignore all of it. No one knows anything about sports and unpredictability is the predictable. Enjoy the season.
