Rick Ocasek of the Cars has died. RIP.
I had a brush with Rick too. In the 80s I was walking down West 4th in the Village and I see this really tall guy decked out in leather with all kinds of chains and frills hanging off of him. It was Rick Ocasek, lead singer of The Cars. He was this really lanky guy and he walks with these really long strides, passing multiple people with each step. As he's walking he's looking over the top of people and rapidly closing on me. Just as he's right in front of me, his leg connects with a toddler who goes flying into a fire hydrant and bounces off onto the street like a pinball. I don't think he even noticed and kept walking without hesitating and was gone. The little kid was still on the ground crying and this young Hispanic guy runs up to me and says - "hey! did you see that kid just got hit by a Car?"
This is a true story, not a joke. The guy who ran up to me was sharp to come up with that instantly. The kid was fine after crying a bit.
