Today is very sad day in the Maher Household. My favorite hat that I've literally worn to almost every basketball game and worn almost every vacation since college was blown away in the pacific ocean today right off my head in ridiculous winds off the southern coast of Peru today on a motorboat. I seriously considered jumping in the water to save it

This is like like losing a best friend. Devastating

Just checked the tides, it will wash up at Midland Beach, Staten Island in Spring of 2020.

My sincere condolences. On the bright side, if you were going to lose it, better to lose it there than on the subway.

No problem, mjmaherjr. Am happy to inform you that Rudy Giuliani has heard of your loss and is Fedexing you his "Make Mexico Great Again Also" hat. Look forward to seeing you wearing it at games this year. (It'll be easy to spot you.)

This could be a good thing. Perhaps that hat was just out of wins. I know it must be hard, but new era.......new hat. Could bring us luck.

That sucks. I once lost a prized Met hat in a thunderstorm outside Citifield. I also lost my wedding ring in the Atlantic on my first day of my honeymoon. Time to get a new one and build some new Karma.

That's what Nathalie basically said. In the middle of my anger and borderline sea sickness she says " what are you so pissed about they sucked when you wore it " sadly she wasn't far from the truth

Worst thing is I needed a hat because I got like 12th degree sunburn 2 days ago so I had to wear her yankee hat today because I left my ranger hat in Lima and met hat at home

Sorry to hear of your loss MJ. Know that she gave her all to bring us luck and maybe the sacrifice will appease the angry gods that have been bedeviling us for years.

All kidding aside I still have a red "Beast of the East" t-shirt in the closet. Its logo the dribbling Indian all cracked and faded. My wife keeps insisting I throw it out. Its only 50 sizes too small. I just can't do it. It reminds me of the best basketball conference their ever was and the great St John's teams that I sat at the Garden watching. Sorry, its going nowhere. I understand.

I live in Midland.. believe me, you wouldn't want that hat back coming from that water!

Mike - Nathalie is absolutely right. This is good luck. This is more promising for us than any of the BS Rothstein tweeted today. Now maybe you can lose the 1980s sweat pants.

I'm so demented knowing it wouldn't be wearable again I still walked almost an hour along the entire shore this morning in the area of southern peru we were in before we left hoping that with the heavy wind yesterday and big waves that maybe I would see it on the shore. Wasn't there. Oh well
