RIP John Andariese

Very, very sad to hear.

John was a classy, knowledgeable, well-liked, and well-respected part of Knicks broadcasts for a long, long time ... and one helluva nice guy.

Very knowledgeable and articulate color man for the Knicks for many years
Labeled a great guy by Lupica, Isola and other NY writers
He will be missed by New York basketball fans
RIP John

Yes Bay Ridge, Brooklyn near the Verrazano Bridge - a few times I'd see him
In the local diner - always friendly and willing to talk basketball with anyone!
Blessings in this time of sadness and loss. Not easy to lose someone you love AND
"He lived a long Life"
does NOT help soothe the pain.

all the best

So sorry to hear this. RIP and my prayers are with his family.

RIP John Andariese. He was one of those guys that when you heard his voice like Marv Albert and Cal Ramsey you thought NY Knicks.

This Thread is weird, redken is quoted but Redken's original posts don't appear in the thread, I don't understand that. (Redken--- I grew up in Bklyn and married a St. Pat's SJU gal.)

Anyway, my two cents on John A. is that he goes back far with us Knicks fans from the mid to late 60's mostly the 70's 80's and 90's. After that there was a falling out, something about selling playoff tickets, if I am not mistaken.

He seemed like a real decent and genuine person. Respectful and accurate and real in his comments.

I think his Johnnies comments were usually very positive even though he was a "Fordham Man" not a "St. John's Man", funny thing is that back in the day, they actually used those terms.

Later on he and his wife did radio ads for a Hospice program that took care of his (I think) father-in-Law as he suffered late in life. Frankly that was not too many years ago and maybe John A was already in early stage Alzheimers, so sorry to think of him passing that way. My father in law died that way, very hard to watch.

God bless his family and friends and may his soul rest in peace.

BJR, the first two graphs cited were mine; the "Wow" post that followed was usguard's, followed by SS&G, then usguard again. As for me, I grew up in the Bronx without any Brooklyn basketball connections.

You're right about John losing favor with the Garden over his selling some playoff tix. Overblown nonsense.

Agree that the Knicks did John dirty as that was just their excuse as I believe the real reason was just like Marv he wouldn't tow the company line Dolan demanded by blowing smoke up the fans arse when they obviously stunk, unlike the sellout AL Trautwig.
