So sad
what a special person Gerry was. I got to know him my first year in 1981. He never missed a SJU vs UConn game. Always a Redmen, I used to scan the stands behind the Huskies bench looking for him pregame to say hello. In the 80’s, if our Team Physician, the late GREAT Irving Glick MD wanted a second opinion or surgical advice, he usually called Dr. Lawrence. As the years past, we developed a close friendship not only through SJU but with USA Basketball as he was one of our team physicians in the late 80’s and early ‘90s. We would meet each year in Colorado Springs, Co. during the many USA Basketball Trials for International competition. Gerry never missed the yearly Lou Carnesecca sponsored Alumni Mass and Breakfast on campus. We would always sit together near the training room in Taffner and watch practice and he was still an incredible judge of talent even in his later years of the players and the coaches. He loved St. John’s. He might be the only former basketball player from the 1960’s forward that became a physician from SJU.
RIP Gerry
