"I just received some very sad news. My college baseball coach at St John's University, Joe Russo, has passed away. Big part of me has been ripped apart hearing this. Playing baseball 4 him was truly an honor!! He believed in me as a ball player more as a person and more as a coach".

I worked for coach Russo as team manager in 1994 & 95, same time the team was selected to represent Team USA for the Pan-Am games. He resigned in fall '95 due to the racial discrimination charges surrounding one of the players on the team. I have no idea of the merits to the claim. I never saw or heard anything first hand working in his office almost every day after classes or on the field for more than a year. He was an excellent baseball coach and appreciated the opportunity given to me.

Had a chance to meet coach Russo a couple of times during my years at St. John's. He was a gentleman and good guy. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
