RIP Anthony Mason

Might have been the toughest basketball team ever. Think about it Patrick Ewing was about the 4th Knick you wouldn't want to fight on Mase's first team in NY behind Mase, Oak and McDaniel.
RIP

Sad sad news. I remember seeing him the first time he showed up at the Garden to see Mase, Jr. play and was astonished at his size. Certain it contributed to his health issues. He made those battles with the Miami Heat epic, and as a Springfield Garden guy truly was representing New York. Came up the hard way, proved himself, and yes, one of the toughest, more athletic big gys ever to play. Brought his own style to the court with inspiration cut into his hair. RIP.

Those were the days. Loved that team. Gave us so many great moments. Sad news. RIP Mase.

RIP big Mase. Talked with him at Carnesecca during half time on one of the games and kidded that why wasn't he on the Knicks now as they were in another losing streak. He laughed and said he is only a phone call away.

Upsetting extended prayers to the family
Does anyone know the circumstances around his death?

favorite Riley Knick team was his first
Ewing, Oak, X Man, Gerald Wilkins and Mark Jackson started
Mase, Kiki Vandeweghe, Starks and Greg Anthony came off bench
Loved Mase and Starks
Urban Legend is that McDaniel and Mase got into a legendary fight in practice that went on for over and hour and no one could break up. If you google it a bunch of stories pop up.

It was cool seeing him at Johnny games. I have a particularly loud friend who is devoted Johnny fan. When he spotted the big guy he yelled in his direction, "I hate Uconn". Mason laughed at him. Probably because it was a Marquette vs St. John's game. From a distance he seemed to be a real good guy.

He made his mark in NYC sports

Obviously being a Knicks fan, Ewing was my favorite player (didn't grow up with Frazier, Reed, or King). But I'll always say Oak and Mase allowed Ewing to be great. Dirty work players who were key to the '90s Knicks.

#RIPMase
