Just wanted to put it out there that Gathers had 25 points and 28 rebounds in Baylors game tonight. That's the most rebounds in a college game since 2006

Huston-Tillotson is an NAIA school with 926 students and a 3-13 record. Putting up numbers on them is not an accomplishment. This was a gimmick came because they were supposed to use it in a movie about "Coach Carter". Somehow this 56 year old man was supposed to play for Huston Tillotson and they were going to film it. At least, that is the story from the Baylor Athletic Dept.

Yeah, your wit is unparalleled.
To be fair, the staff was doing things right with Gathers recruitment. I remember Moose pointing him out to me during halftime of a tournament at the Garden.
I know it has been said, but that was the year Lavin was diagnosed with cancer. He came back and coached those games, but was forced to take leave the rest of the season. Part of the reason was to show recruits, like Gathers who was in attendance, he was still in charge and healthy.
But it wasn't meant to be. And since he picked Baylor (not exactly a University known for its pure athletic programs), I am fairly certain a mention or two (hundred) about health was used in the recruiting battle for him, and it worked. (Ironically, TX A&M was another of the four teams and that is where we first got to see Branch).
