The story, at the time, was that Francesa (who was good friends with Majerus) asked him if he would be interested in coming to St. John's.

Sad news indeed. Rick was one of the game's good guys. Things will go on without him, but they won't be the same. RIP, Big Guy,

Aaron Spears was gettin it done against Duke that day.... On the serious side may he Rest in peace, hard not to like a guy like Majerus

One of the best X's and O's guys ever. He literally had 200 plays for inbounding the ball.

A great coach who was one of my all time favorites. He was so knowledgeable about basketball.
He did a great job at SLU. My niece works there and Rick, a great character, was well liked by all even though he would tweak the administration from time to time just to stir things up.
A great person who will be missed.
RIP

Always liked Coach Majerus. I wanted him here on our sidelines after FF was fired. I always thought he would have been a great fit STJs and for NYC.

He and Coach Keady were my second and third favorite coaches through the years (Coach Carnesecca of course was my #1) and I would always root for their teams to win, especially in the NCAAs.

Sad to hear this. RIP Coach, college hoops has lost one of its more colorful people.

This morning Francesa, who was visibly upset, told one such story.

Rick once said that St. Louis should not have been in the A-10 since his players could not get home after a night game on the East Coast for morning classes.

Francesa just told a story about how Doc Rivers got his nickname. Apparently, the first day Rick met "Doc" he was wearing a Dr. J T-Shirt and Rick called him "Doc" and that is how the nickname was born.

Always enjoyed listening to his analysis . Many great interviews with Mike and the Dog . a Jesuit educated man who often made reference to the fact that he gained a wonderful education at Marquette . An all around nice guy , I will miss him .
