NY Post is reporting that the Kid, Gary Carter has passed away of brain cancer at age 57.

While a huge Yankee fan and Met hater, Carter was someone I always respected as a player. He played my favorite position and played with heart and joy besides being clutch. My prayers are with his family.

:(

What is really unfair is that Carter, of all the prominent Mets from that '86 team, lived by all reports the cleanest lifestyle. Yet with all the alcohol and who knows what else likely ingested by a number of players from that team, they all outlive "The Kid".

What a personality, loved his spirit. Unfortunately, he only lived a little over a year with cancer. Lost my son to brain cancer after four years and six operations. He was a Met fan and knowing Brian he was right there greeting him in Heaven. God Bless you, Gary.

Both are tradgities and all I can do is offer my condolences and wish God speed to your family and the Carter family. RIP

Sad, sad news ... especially about someone who was so filled with life, energy and positive thinking, not to mention Hall of Fame talent.

Here's to you, Kid!

I was 9 when Carter was traded to the Mets and I hated it.

Why?

I was a huge Hubie Brooks fan. And not just because he was a good player, but his name was HUBIE. For a 9-year-old kid, that's a big deal. Same with Mookie.

So I was down on the Mets even though I thought the '84 team was the greatest thing since Atari. Then opening day 1985 comes - a day game and I'm in school. My mom picks me up and we run some errands walking home through Jackson Heights. We go into a card store late in the afternoon and the workers are hooping and hollering. They had a small TV on near the cash register. And Gary Carter just hit a walkoff homer.

Walking home that night carrying bags for my mom, I wasn't thinking about my grudge or Hubie. All I wanted to do was get in front of the TV to see Warner Wolf replay Carter's homer. I was hooked.

I've seen my dad get wistful every time another Brooklyn Dodger dies - the latest Duke Snider. Now I know how he feels.

The City of Montreal is mourning for Gary Carter, he was the leader of the Expos.
Jack my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

RIP Kid. One of my childhood favorites from one of my all time favorite teams. God bless you. I still remember Carter warming up that very cold opening day in 1985 with his 10th inning homerun.
