Mike Repole has a horse entered for both this year's Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. In the Derby, to be run on Saturday, he is sending out Overanalyze the recent winner of the Arkansas Derby. In the Oaks, to be run on Friday, he is sending out the undefeated Unlimited Budget.

Here is hoping that Mr. Repole's horses come up big this weekend.

Unfortunately the answer is that there is no such thing as reasonably priced good seats for the Derby. Churchill Downs is an awful place to see a horse race and the tickets are insanely overpriced for the Derby. If you could even get decent seats (which is unlikely) you would have to start around five hundred dollars a seat to be able to get a spot where you could watch the race at all. I have attended the Derby three time 1998, 1999 and 2000 but have yet to see more than 10 seconds of the two minute plus race. That being said, the atmosphere and ambiance surrounding the event is pretty cool and is worth going to for the experience of being there.

However for a great, big day, horse racing experience and bang for your buck you can't beat the Belmont Stakes. Unlike Churchill Downs, Belmont Park is a great place to watch a horse race. Seats are reasonably priced, you can get a great viewing spot for under a hundred bucks a seat. I sit in the $45 dollar seats on Belmont Day and they are as good as the best seats at Churchill Downs. I have attended every Belmont run after 1975 and have been there for the last three Triple Crown winners. It is always a great day and even if you don't want to pay for seats, the backyard is a great place for a picnic and a perfect view of the paddock area.

Repole's horses Unlimited Budget finished third in the Oaks and Overanalyze finished eleventh in the Derby.

NBC Sports Network had a nice piece on Mr. Repole and his wife Maria during their Oaks telecast. It was mentioned that Maria believed in Mike's vision of success before anyone else saw the possibilities that he saw for the future. I am sure this will not be his last Derby trip and hopefully one day he gets a Derby winner.

The Derby is a hard race to win though. Ask Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey. Twenty four years after he finished second in the Derby with the big favorite Easy Goer he finally made it to the Derby winner's circle yesterday with Orb. Orb circled the field on a sloppy track, coming from far back off a hot pace and won by two and a half lengths. It is on to Baltimore for the Preakness from here, as Orb tries to become the first horse since Affirmed, in 1978, to win the elusive Triple Crown.
