I first started attending St. John’s games as a season ticket holder in the mid 90s. Back then my season ticket partner was a good buddy named Rob. We had these tickets for a long time and had some great memories, the best was probably when we beat Duke on the Hatten free throw. He went to St. John’s and if I'm not mistaken, he received his Associates degree from there. Rob eventually married and had three beautiful kids (they range from ages 4 to 12). He and his wife moved to NJ so he hasn't been able to make as many SJU games as he used to, but he remained a big time St. John's fan and supporter.
Yesterday after the Iona game another buddy (and St. John’s fan who I’ve gone to games with and knew Rob well) called to tell me that Rob died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday. Rob was older than me but he was only in his early 50s and the picture of perfect health. I am writing this post for two reasons, the first is to ask that everyone keep Rob & his family in your prayers. St. John’s lost a big fan yesterday. The second is to ask that everyone think of your friends and family today just a little more than you usually do. Maybe you can hug them a bit tighter, or spend a little extra time telling someone how much they mean to you.
