Redshirts

Who exactly redshirted? After Humbolt State game I believe Lavin said Felix is red shirting. He said Jones redshirt was up in the air. So did Jones redshirt? I hope he did, because he's not gonna see much time this year, and I think could be a vital piece moving forward with three more years eligible...

Given that I don't see anyone looking like an early entry candidate so far, there's actually 10 scholarship players committed for the 14/15 season and a highly valued walk on. ;)(

Need another big or two, that's it.

But, stranger things have happened in college/pro basketball
I would think that you still have to monitor who's available out there just in case someone unexpectedly leaves at the end of the season
At this point, nothing would surprise me

Is Marco a candidate to redshirt. I know he already lost a year but he does have one year left. I dont think he has played in any games yet.

I think this is Marco's 5th year of college and---barring a medical redshirt and waiver---he has no more eligibility. That being said, I also think he has played in one of the exhibition games. I'm not sure if those count for redshirt issues.

Last year the question was he a Sophmore or a Junior as we all know he was determined to be a Junior. I think he sat out a year at Monroe.

And people said we have nobody lined up for 2014- we got 3 players lined up!

This is truly a depressing thread!
Our recruiting has gone from signing top 100 players to a strategy of redshirting walk-ons!
That said, I fully expect a couple of surprise signings so we do not become the smallest team in the Big East.

According to Rivals Lavin and staff have made offers to 14 recruits during this 2014 recruiting cycle and he is thus far zero for 12 with 2 offers pending with still uncommitted players (DelaRosa and Cunningham).

St. John's graduates 3 players this season. There is no way to spin this recruiting cycle as a success without some the late signing of a significant player or players.

There was no way to spin my washing machine cycle into a success 1/3 of the way into it, but, sure enough, the clothes came out clean yet again. I thought for sure when my clothes weren't dry in 10 minutes, that the dryer was doomed and my clothes would never be dry. To my surprise, they were all dry an hour later.

Words can't describe what you just said :)

While funny, your retort to OTIS is all wet! His point was that SJ offered their top targets and not a one was interested. That is a far cry from "who Lavin wants, Lavin gets" that was popular a couple of years back.
OTIS's point was that we lose 3 (I think 4) players without "quality" recruits coming in and if any of the homers here think Lipscomb, Jones or Felix are replacements that fill the vacancies of the departing positions then our standards are dropping faster than Newsie has been proclaiming.
Last year we got fortunate with a late signing by Jordan. IF that had fallen through, we would have gone through 2 recruiting cycles without a top 100 sigining.
When you are standing naked in the living room waiting for an old pair of jeans to dry, it would have been nice if you had a second pair just in case. LOL!

I'm not sure how we were fortunate to get Jordan, we recruited him hard and for a very long time. How ever if we didn't get Jordan then you really think we wouldn't have gotten a top guard in this class whether it be Whitehead or someone else?

Sure, this probably wont be one of our greater recruiting classes but how much do we really need? Out of the 3 players graduating, Sanchez is probably the only significant loss. Add another big like Delarosa who can spell Obekpa and we look to be in good shape. Like others have said, its still early and the high school season is just starting. Some kids that may end up being quality recruits may not even be noticed yet.

Sure........they may go from being unranked 0 star players to 2 star players!!!
So we may sign 2 more players that need a few years to develop and will be "redshirted"!
Earth to Redstorm 80, when you are losing a 6'9 quality starter, to stay competitive you better sign someone who is good enough to start as freshman .
That is what you pay $2 million in recruiters to do!
A guy named Jarvis did great his first two years with Fran's recruits until his recruiting failed to keep up with Syracuse and Gtowns of the world........

I am going to wear a red t shirt at the game tonight in honor of this thread
