Redmen.Com Tournament Challenge

Unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to select St. John's in any bracket. But I find it hard to believe that there are 68 better teams in the country. Just saying.....

True, but that's one of the things that makes the tournament fun. Those mid-major bids can sometimes produce drama, upsets and Cinderella stories. i love our conference and think getting to the tournament is not easy, but very attainable.

Today I'll be rooting for my local team Davidson to knock off URI in A-10 championship at 1 and punch a ticket to the dance. URI has flirted with disaster against both VCU and St. Joe's so far but came up big when it mattered. URI will be in win or lose, so hoping maybe Davidson has a little more motivation. Having said that URI is a little too tough defensively for Davidson unless they are on fire from behind the arc and avoid getting turned over by URI.

Good luck. Man that Peyton Aldridge can play! McKillop can coach (as it turns out think we made big mistake listening to Ron Rutledge and not hiring him over Norm).

Yes, McKillop's teams always play sound fundamentally. URI doing great job of taking away the three today and of making life difficult for Aldridge. However, Wildcats hanging tough.

RI on the comeback...

I follow & root for Davidson too.

One of their assistant coaches is husband of my daughter's HS college counselor.

Yeah - nail biter all of a sudden. Pritchett, the kid who missed the tying three, played at Lake Norman High School with my former work colleague's son. Used to see him at the Lowe's YMCA a lot.

Could watch Davidson all day, so structured & well coached

Remember Davidson was working hard to get Earlington visit. If they were willing to bring him on and develop him, we should be patient with him imo.

Great win Davidson!
Davidson punches their NCAA ticket 58-57 - good for them!
Both of my teams lose this week.

Was watching the classy way Danny Hurley congratulated the Davidson players. Good on him.

Anyone on their roster from 125th street?

Yes, very pleased we got Marcellus. He’s a hardworking kid. We’ll be rewarded if we are patient. Hey, maybe he’ll grow 2” as another poster said.

Interviewed him for an opening in social studies and varsity basketball. Cleancut and ,personable, ready to hire him. Who walks in for an interview but a friend who was a teammate on the St.John's baseball team. So he had experience in both coaching varsity basketball plus varsity baseball. Loyalty to my Redmen colleague. BTW, McKillop took the Holy Trinity job, didn't turn out so bad did it?

Just a reminder to join the Redmen.com bracket challenge and if you are up watching the ESPN Tournament Challenge show on ESPN2 tonight from 1am to 4am EST, DJ Rob is playing the tunes in a STJ #20 jersey, FYI.

Knight, you are right . The NCAA does not provide the best 68 teams , despite the hoopla the Networks create . Regular Season Champions May be on the outside looking in , if they are upset in their post season tourney and their League is only a 1 team league . Also too ,many of the 15-16 seeds are from those lower tier Conferences that are not on a Par with the BE, ACC, etc . As a result , teams like St .Mary’s who have great records in the WCC, 28-5, lost out this year . Of Course, the Gaels usually cannot beat Gonzaga in that Conference and usually finish second . Some years that is enough to get them in . Not this year . And , there is always the controversy about this team got in and another team didn’t . For example , Syracuse got in , ND didn’t despite the 1/2 season injury to Bonzie Colson . And , lots of questions about Oklahoma getting in , with a disastrous late season collapse . I think they are enamored with Trae Young playing his 1 and only College Season and selected the Sooners as a result . It makes you wonder if we had split with G Town , instead of losing that 2 OT game . Beat DePaul twice . Split with Creighton or Xavier which we had close games with in the regular season . If we had 3 more wins , wrapped around our signature Wins against Nova and Duke , would we have landed a bid ? Why not ? And , certainly a NIT berth , if not .

As we enter into Final Four weekend I'm doing a recap of who still has a chance to win our annual Tourney Challenge. Since no one has Loyola in their Final Four and no one has Michigan winning it all it's a bit easier than usual.

If Kansas makes the finals the winner is BigRed77 / Top Dog (not sure which is his screen name)
If Nova faces Michigan in the finals the winner is JohnnyFan
If Nova faces Loyola in the finals the winner is RM86

Monday nights game has no affect on the standings at all.
