Red Suit Guy

Always thought he was a student. Sat in front of him at Nova game. Haven’t been able to hear well since then lol

Well deserved recognition for his great enthusiasm for the team--more current students should follow his lead.
Hey Billy, are you a poster on Redmen.com ?
His ID is his name... Billy Rabold. I remembered he posted a few times a year or so ago.

Great fan. He had a buddy early on who would also wear a red suit, but haven't seen that guy in 2 seasons at least.

Great article, and not just a crazy fan. Outstanding guy, someone we can all be proud of! I have to meet this guy.
Suggest, however, that he remove the sleeves.
No one will ever replicate original superfine Bill B ( Sleeveless guy ) but I give this guy credit for wearing a suit in that Sauna Canrnesseca

Been to several games with Billy...great guy and we need more enthusiasm like he brings. My friend and I sat with him many times and it would be us, Billy, and his friend making 90% of the noise in the area with others mostly standing around. Wish more would get on board. Been saying for years now that our administration needs to find a way to reward super fans other than just giving a spotlight. The louder and crazier you are at games, maybe you get randomly selected for a $100 school store giftcard or tickets to really nice seats at a MSG game. Maybe you designate 5-10 students to work games walking around the seats and give out Aquista's certificates if they see them getting loud. Or establish a specific section not unlike the Cameron Crazies section for Duke where no one is scared to act like a fool and support the team loudly. My friend and I also discussed allowing fans to shoot around at CA or MSG after games. I think that would be really cool and there can be some contests involved if they wanted as well. We met with some of the basketball administration directly about this stuff and they liked some of the ideas we brainstormed but they never really kept contact. There are tons of ideas out there but they don't seem interested.

I know you get a lot of flack here on the Forum Zaun, but St John's needs more fans like you and Billy. I don't agree with all your takes, but I appreciate what you've done for SJU in real life.

Thanks Alex, some of it was deserved given my past, but few will ever know how far I've gone to genuinely try to help work with the program for free on my own time after work. My friend and I literally made an entire presentation that took us hours on how to improve the fan experience. Lots of specifics and what I at least think are cool ideas and handed out powerpoint slides over dinner. We were also discussing some of this stuff with Billy.
At first, I thought this was a story celebrating the Red Tuxedo Guy. Much relieved it wasn't.
Me too. The Red Man. Was pretty funny at the time.

I give the Red Tuxedo Guy a lot of credit, he put up with a lot of verbal abuse at games and online, on this site and many others. I wonder how many of us would have shown up game after game knowing what we were gonna get instead of hiding here behind screen names. Just sayin'

Who did you meet with?

The Red Man mascot was a terrible idea, and it followed an equally terrible mascot - The Beast. People were almost unanimous in commenting negatively regarding these mascots. No one ridiculed the person in the costume, so I really don't understand your complaint. Should we have applauded yet another failed idea coming out of the athletic department?
As to which posters would have wanted to be the student in either of those mascot costumes, I would guess few or none would have wanted any connection. The only proper resolution would have been to have the individual responsible for the concept be the person in the costume.

Not certain of date, but it was around the time we dropped "Redmen" nickname. There was a year or two when the creative savants at SJU were trying to come up with a mascot to go with Red Storm nickname. My recollection is that during a game at MSG, versus the Hoyas, they brought out "The Beast," a hideous thing that at once resembled both a lion and a cow. A disturbing image. After this fiasco, the ill-fated Red Tuxedo Man mascot debuted to predictable reviews. I may have the order reversed. Maybe the Tuxedo preceded The Beast.
In any event, they were followed by "Thunder," the pony who was better received by the fans. What any of these mascots have to do with Red Storm is beyond me.
