G-town's project is admirable. The success will likely depend on the quality and ambition of the students, which they have a good start on.
I don't think the magic formula is the right mix of traditional vs project vs MOOC'S (massive open online courses) licensed out by elite schools / professors but more so in prepping the incoming freshman in what should lie ahead...about critical thinking, seeing things from a broader perspective etc. Hard to do when you're 17/18 and get thrown into 101 courses in world history, English and accounting but aren't sure how/why it all ties together. Most kids don't even know or think about what type of learning environment they should put themselves in that enhance their retention, interest or participation.
