Re. Dunlap's comment. "Syracuse did us a favor". .

For those of us who attended the game..... Whether it helps the team or not, those are favors we can certainly do without. :)

I think he means it reminds these young and brash kids how far they still have to go to be an excellent team.

It was like men against boys out there yesterday. This SU team could beat the Knicks. How does Boeheim consistently recruit and retain this much talent year after year???

It's a process. He has 4 classes worth of players, Lavin has one. Fwiw, we're landing the same caliber of talent. We just are not a complete roster yet.

Maybe he'll find it more difficult with Fine's wife out of the picture ;)

indeed syracuse does have the best zone in college bb -- yes we did lose -- how ever 4 freshman and one junior did
score 70 points in a 7 man rotation with 2 without points -- with better foul shooting the score would be closer-- and
without melo ( what an amazing academic improvement after the cuse lost to nd ) the game was a possible win--
next season with some height and a 10 or 11 man rotation and lavin on the bench--We Will Be The Beast Of The East.

We'll be fine. Coach and staff need more time as do our current players - let's not forget we were dealt perhaps the worst of times (not the best of times etc.) in the history of college basketball - perhaps the worst during the entire civililized worlds etc.

Please not to offend anyone, but Moses, Napolean, Gandhi, Patton and Boeheim; let's see who else, Mighty Joe Young, Mr. Rogers, Mrs. Rogers, Miller Huggins (Yankees circa 1920s), Bat Masterson, Joe Lapchik and the Wicked Witch of the North (homestead in Syracuse and vicinity) et al. could not muster any more progress and success and wins than Lavin, Dunlap etc have this year. :cheer:

Nine new kids had to be recruited? Five freshmen starting? No bench?

good times ahead an at hand.

all the best

all the best

Hey SS&G, don't repeat yourself!

I agree with that line of thought. This is why I didn't think that cutting into Duke's big lead was such a big deal. It was a nice run, and a sign on not quitting, but the game was always safe for Duke because each time we needed that stop that could have gotten us into a one possession game if we scored, they scored or made free throws. There were times when our defense was so porous it made for highlight reel dunks even though we were playing defense. We had difficulty penetrating and difficulty getting off good looks from the outside. I agree we were undermanned, but we also don't have the size and overall talent Syracuse has.

People stop with the free throw BS. If SJU would have made 75 percent of their free throws, they lose by 21 instead of 25. It made no difference in the outcome.

Not only are we getting the same caliber of talent, our kids are playing. Compare Carter-Williams and Harrison. C-W is playing 12 mpg and is scoring 2.8 ppg. Harrison Is playing nearly the entire game and is averaging 16.7 ppg. Practices are geared to preparing Harrison, while Syracuse is focused more on the starters. Film reviews are centered around guys like Harrison at STJ, but not for C-W at Cuse...not to even mention the fact that Harrison has three times as much film to review for his benefit.

Of course C-W does have the advantage of going up against better players in practice, but he also defers to and leans on those playerss in games while Harrison has learned to be the man, score the basketball when defenses key on you, and to take shots with the game on the line.

When it's all said and done, Harrison will have played more minutes as a freshman than C-W will in his first two seasons combined.
