For official visit this weekend!!!!
Will it be a free plane trip home for the weekend or will we see Mullin and Slice do their magic? Keep your fingers crossed because Shamorie will do his best this weekend.

Normally, I would have concerns about his probably 1 and done status, but with Lovett and Ponds already in the fold, I think we can survive it this time.

Choose wisely, Rawle! (and by wisely, I mean, pick St. John's)!

Please change the title of this thread. When I read it ,sounds like he committed. That said if we snag him , next year will b an enjoyable year.

Sorry Richard. As the senior moderator of the Rookie Forum I decline your request.

I would with Thon Maker, if he qualifies, but Rawle is not a 1 and done imo. He is as good as Bashir but will have to improve his handle for his size since he will be a Mitch Richmond like player if he gets the right tutelage (hint) and minutes. We are able to offer that but none of the State schools can and he definitely would be a 2-3 year player anywhere else. .....see Chiek Diallo.

I also agree that Alkins is not a 1 and done. Unless he develops a legitimate jumper in one year to play the NBA 2, or crazy handles and court vision to play the Point. He is one of those players who will greatly benefit staying more than just a year in college. He's got a frame very similar to Dwade, and he stayed in college in 3 years to develop his game to play 2 guard.

i dont think hes a one and done player either but i can see him leaving in his 2nd to none ..he would be the perfect combo guard in the nba ... mitch richmond would be the perfect guy to teach him how be one

St. John's makes the most sense from a purely basketball perspective. Who better than to learn the game from than actual players and HOFers? However, as a private, small campus catholic institution we simply don't offer the amenities big flagship publics do. To some 18 year olds, off court activities (parties, campus size etc.) are just as important. Other players (like Mullin) will spend there off time in the gym or hitting the books. I think our biggest (non-basketball) tipping point will be that Rawle will be home, and his biggest fans will be at every single home game.

I changed the title because it was misleading

Sure you did!
WhIle you're at it you may also want to use your editorial skill with "Mussini's Progress at Point Guard".
B)
Then again the best click bait headline award goes to Jungle Dave with "Can Amar Alibegovic be a factor?"
Steve gel head Lavin was seen rolling on the floor laughing with that one!

72 as much as I like you taking charge but we know that I am the Head Coach of the Rookie Forum. I am the Wally Backman of the site. I'll be stuck in the minors or possibly a third base coach in the show.
I mean lets be real I have over 300 posts and I will be here until I hit 10000.

I really hope he decides to sign with us....

Do you 'need' this kid? Technically no....I mean we will still have a basketball team with or without him. But he is a highly rated local kid. And despite what many posters on the big forum say, no matter how hard the staff works, they aren't going to be able to find another player to replace someone like that.

I tend to agree. Even though we're going to be a lot better Day 1 next year with just our current commits, I think Rawle accelerates our growth even more. Hopefully, the ego isn't a problem as some people are pointing out.

Well we lost out on him. In my opinion, this is a huge loss. He was a difference maker, and the type of player where the excuse "oh well, we'll just find someone else to replace him" just does not apply. You don't just find other players to take the place of a 5 star recruit.

Yes, we will find other players....they just won't be on his level. This sucks.

As I stated last year, before Steve Lavin was fired, Rawle Alkins had no interest in staying local or playing at St. John's. He told a tutor at CTK that I trust that the previous staff had (Tony Chiles) made contact and he showed no interest. He told classmates he wanted to play someplace "warm" as if he were an effing retiree.  The kid is a physical specimen but needed tutoring to keep him eligible.  If I were the NCAA I would not take the Word of God on his transcript.
The current staff is going to offer all the local kids with talent but don't expect much different results than previous years with most of them because NYC and the Garden is not a draw for them. Out of town kids are more impressed with the aura of NYC and they should remain the major focus when it comes to 4 and 5 star talent.
I expect a 5th year player with serious talent to enroll for next year and it will not be a 6'4 guard but a big and possibly another forward who can actually score instead of an offensive project like Yakwe who needs another year to develop even the most basic offensive skills which are completely lacking now.
They did not need Alkins and he wasn't coming anyway. Bashir Ahmed can move to the two when needed because he has a better outside shot than Alkins. Don't be surprised to see a 6'9 Freudenberg used as 2/3 in spots similar to the way Max Hooper is used at Oakland.
There are a lot of coals in the fire.
