Jermaine Cole, who is a rapper known as J. cole, graduated from St. John's about 6-7 years ago. Since then, he has become very famous in pop culture. I'm a junior in high school and he's known as one of the biggest rappers out right now.

What makes j cole unique, and why I like him, is he really associates himself as just a man of the people. He tries not to brag about his money and fame, he makes songs that show that he's just an average person, and a lot of people relate to that.

So it wasn't a surprise to me when the whole shooting/protests started in Missouri, J Cole decided to act and make a difference. First, he made a song about about the whole incident. On twitter, many criticized cole and said he made the song for publicity. Then people realized j cole actually showed up to ferguson, and walked with the people, listened to the people. He even signed the hat he was wearing and left it at the memorial where Mike Brown was killed. He didn't tweet about going there, there was no word received he was going there. He just showed up, and tried to help comfort the people there.

There's an interview he did while he was on the streets, that I encourage anybody to watch, I think he carries himself really well, thanks to the communications degree he got from SJU, and he is just well spoken unlike so many people in the hip hop genre today.

Here's the interview he did: http://bit.ly/1rTYX0B

Jack, while I can respect your admiration of J. Cole as a person and artist, far too many people have registered an opinion on the events leading up to the situation in Ferguson without really knowing exactly what happened. Although all of us have opinions it is irresponsible on all sides to cast heroes and villains without knowing the actual circumstances in the briefs moments leading up to the shooting death of a young man.
