Don't like that scoring margin is being used, even if they are capping it at 10 points. Is somebody going to press fullcourt up 11 with 10 seconds left to prevent a meaningless layup? Is somebody going to foul late up by 9, to try and get the ball back, and up the margin? I'm becoming more of an advocate for the Elam Ending with each passing day.

Since we have such an easy schedule, this has to be a good thing.

It basically means when we blow out a cupcake team, at least we'll get a tiny bit of credit for it.

Obviously nobody knows how much the metrics will factor in, and even blowing out the 300+ cupcakes won't help since the margin is capped at 10 points.

That said, any metric that can help our atrocious schedule and factors in more than just W/L will be beneficial.

Again though, I don't think this will help out at all for the third of our OOC where we play 300+ teams. Not sure about all the 200+ either. So we could be talking about only a very slight improvement.

basically a dumb metric. You can play a team neck and neck all night, and in the last 2 minutes a 1 point game becomes 10. Conversely you can be down by 25 most of the game, and hopelessly behind, whittle it to 10 at the buzzer. Two very different games.

I don't think margin of victory will help us, if anything it will probably hurt us. We will be favored by more than 10 points in most of these games, I'm sure point differential is weighted based on the expected outcome of the game similar to how score affects Kenpom rankings. I'm sure a close win against the teams we are heavily favored against will have a negative impact though.

For any given game, sure. But when you play 33+ games a year things even out.

This is a good point too, which I alluded to earlier. Look forward to hearing the analysts break it down.

The NCAA isn't dumb, so they won't make it beneficial for teams to play a bunch of cupcakes like we are.

Could make for a lot of unsportsmanlike situations. Remember Mullin getting POed at the Fordham coach for taking late 3's at the end of the game a few years ago and Bashir Ahmed taking exception to late dunk in Zavier game at the end of this past season.
