St. John’s Mourns the Passing of Mike Pedone

Pedone played three years at St. John’s, including the 1959 NIT Championship season

QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2019) – The St. John’s Athletics Department mourns the loss of former men’s basketball player Mike Pedone, who recently passed away at the age of 81.

Pedone played three years of varsity basketball under the direction of legendary coach Joe Lapchick and his assistant, Lou Carnesecca, from 1957-60. As a junior in 1958-59, Pedone helped the Redmen capture the NIT Championship, defeating Villanova, St. Bonaventure, Providence and Bradley en route to the program’s third NIT title.

During Pedone’s three years with the program, the Redmen turned in an overall record of 55-22. Pedone’s best individual season came as a senior in 1959-60 when he averaged 8.5 points and made an appearance in all 25 games.

A service for Pedone will be held at Ascension Church in Milford, N.J., on Sept. 28 at 9:30 a.m.
