Oh man. I saw John at a r-w pregame this season at ca. Didn't go up to him because the room can really bustle. Always think of the Indiana game 75. Think he is from ct and had transferred from hofstra. Smart guy maybe became a lawyer.
Nothing more crushing than to lose a young relative. I admire and am grateful for all those who serve. Their selfless courage to willfully put themselves in harm's way to protect and defend the life bc and values we hold dear. It doesn't diminish the anguish of loss for his family, but it is not a loss in vain.
Terrible loss, condolences to his family. Ran in to John Farmer on the LIRR on our way home from taking the NYS bar exam in summer of 1981 so would presume he did become a lawyer.
I was right about career. Super successful, general counsel and high ranking executive in automotive industry. Certainly one of the brightest and most successful guys to come out of our program.
Not to wander into this arena, and will try to say it more eloquently. Any kid who signs up for military service knows that he may face the ultimate sacrifice, yet they selflessly and courageously volunteer. Their families admire them and have pride in them and pray for their safety. I spend big chunks of the spring and summer in Shelter Island, and when our island lost a young serviceman who died as the explosive he was disabling went off. His platoon mates did an incredible thing in his honor. As they ended their military service together many months later, his entire unit travelled to Shelter Island to pay honor to him, to walk where he walked, visit his family and friends. The entire community embraced them, hosting them in their homes, and having dinners in their honor.
I hope the entire Farmer family is able to feel some measure of pride for the courageous man they lost.
