R.I.P. Dick Duckett / Captain of His St. John's Team / 1952 NCAA Finals

When Chris Mullin left St. John's, fans began to clamor for the school to immediately retire his number.   Although his number wasn't given out again until Mullin was coach and gave his blessing, AD Jack Kaiser wasn't ready at the time to actually retire Mullin's #20.   His supposedly responded to questions on the topic by saying, "We've had so many great players over the years.   How do we single out just one for this honor?"   Duckett's name has been lost in the history of SJU basketball.  I don't know if he was great, but he was certainly a key member of the team that got further up the NCAA mountain as any in our history.

Thanks JSJ for recognizing the passing of a very important Johnny.

Dick Duckett was a big part of the Parenti and Crystal team that played their games in the DeGrey Gym in Brooklyn. This was the time Seiden, Paschal, Alfieri, Roethel and Engert made up our freshmen team in 1955.
