Quote Function

When you post and elect to use the quote function please make sure you start your post AFTER the last quote. There have been too many posts of late where the new response is in the middle of the old message and its simply unreadable. There is also a preview button. Don't be afraid to use it. Once you preview you can click submit from there as well.

Thanks. It will make the board a lot easier for all to read and enjoy.

good idea. Its been tough to understand some of the posts lately. I try to delete the earlier posts and leave only the one I'm addressing but that's tough to do on my Kindle.

I thought it was my laptop or some windows issue, but way too often, there is a lag when I reply using quote and the cursor gets located in the middle of a previous post. This had made posting here considerably more difficult, as many posts end up appearing within the body of a previous post.

Having a lot of trouble getting the page to load that I'm not having on the mobile site. Anything I can do on my end?

I bet you expected me not to do this, huh.

There are any number of factors such as your browser or even malware that you may have on your computer and not know it. If your mobile is using a different internet connection then it could be an issue with the routing. For example if your phone was say Verizon and your desktop Internet connection was say your cable company - the way these two connections route to/from any destination will often be very different. So if there is say a router on one route that is problematic but is not on the other route, this would definitely affect performance one way but not the other.

You can run a traceroute from your command line to discover any such issues. on mac you'd use: traceroute redmen.com
on PC I believe it is: tracerte redmen.com When you run that you'll get a numbered list. Each number represents one of the "hops" that your Internet connection is taking from your pc to the destination server. It will give you a address and ip address as well as response time indicators in milliseconds for each hop. If the hop starts with an asterisk that means that particular router is having a problem. In other words it is not your computer or the site/server but instead a problem with one of the servers on your path from your computer to/from the site.

Do you have any "toolbars" installed on your browser or desktop? Many of these toolbars contain malware/spyware and often these have hijacking elements that load extra things like ads when you load a web page. These ads have nothing to do with the publisher of the site and don't actually exist on that site. It's a way that these companies/individuals hijack your browser without you being aware of it. And a lot of people install things like "reg cleaners" or other PC optimizers that are supposed to speed up, clean or otherwise optimize your PC but in actuality a lot of them themselves contain malware or are so badly coded that they make things worse and can potentially, for all intents and purposes, ruin your OS.

Also don't assume that because you pay for it, a commercial antivirus is superior to a free one. Several times a year I get drafted to "fix" the computer of a friend, family member or even business associate and I've run the free version of Avast several times in comparison to commercial versions of Norton / Macafee and others, with Avast having superior results. Normally when I get into a situation like this the first thing that I do is uninstall all of the games(usually the worst offenders), toolbars, emulators etc that have been installed. Then I'll check the browser extensions/addons. (these things aside from potential exploits often add a lot of overhead.) Then I install the free versions of avast and adaware. I run both doing avast as a boot scan. Invariable there are multiple instances of viruses or corrupted files. Then I run AdAware and often as not, there are tons of spyware that Adaware catches. Then on a windows machine I make sure that the latest windows updates have been done and that updates are set to automatically get checked and installed daily. The same should be done for the antivirus definitions.
If you've covered all of these bases, use the contact form and send me the details of your operating system and browser and I will see if I can help you. "Contact" link in the menu at the bottom of this page.

and if this is an issue with the routing, I use this at home and recommend it to everyone for personal or business use. By using their DNS rather than whatever your Internet provider is using, you can see both a performance boost as well as weed out a lot of malware etc. I've put some of their marketing language below and here is the direct link:
