If you were a recruit or even a parent of a recruit, would you want to go to a school or send your kid there when you have no clue if the coach who is currently recruiting you will be there? I would say no, so that leaves the only kids who would be interested in coming are the ones who are on the fringe to play at the Big East level.

No way. Lavin has been dealing with this for two recruiting classes now. Look at what he delivered for 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 (and all years at UCLA) when his contract wasn't set to expire.

Did it make any difference last year with 3 years to go on his contract? Your question should ask WHY is this coach without an extension and all you have to look at is last year's recruiting and coaching that unfortunately has influenced recruiting more than the status of a contract. Coaches contracts are the least of our long term problems. A college team in NYC needs a buzz around it to attract non alums who can fill the Garden. You do that not just by winning big games but by going after the best players you are most likely to sign. There was zero buzz over the signing of Adonis De La Rosa and less than zero with the late signing of Amar who is riding the pines. If GWU can find a big Japanese kid who gave Seton Hall fits today St John's should be able to go to Europe and not come home with a project that rides the bench. At least that is the message being conveyed by Steve Lavin with Amar. That also influences recruits. Bottom line is this staff needed two solid commitments in the early signing period and got non of their intended targets. That has influenced recruiting and the lack of progress with Lavin's contract.
