Is it possible that the reason for the hesitance of the SJU powers to be to hire a very high priced head basketball coach is because the University may be experiencing some severe financial difficulties? I just don’t understand their reluctance to move forward!

Bs to that, some posted before that they offsred 18mill, don't know how many years, but still you cant add another 7mill for a big time coaches? Hell repole would probably pay that coach.
Not trying to hear bs excuses.

I have absolutely no background in sports management, but my instincts would be to find out from the school what the budget allows. (give me a number!) Then, take that number to a group of potential donors to see what could be subsidized on top of that (getting a new better number!) and then go out and identify what the best possible candidates were given the total amount of money available for compensation.

I have even a more logical approach. YOu figure out how much you have to spend maximum. Select your candidates based on that number, and when you find the guy you really want and he wants you, you blow him away with a 40%-100% raise. That's how the guys who wear long pants do it in college sports. You don't try to secure a big name with a 20% raise. You don't make an offer till you are certain the guy you just interviewed has given you all the buying signs.

You don't offer a Hurley a small raise.

You don't offer a Moser 8 effing years more than doubling his salary unless you are effing certain he will rush to sign it before you take away your dumb ass offer. We are effing lucky the guy likes the Cubs, sausage, and colder weather because if true if was an insane offer.

Third, you don't take all the money you scraped together for a shitty offer to Hurley, and then offer it to a far less attractive candidate "just because".

Fourth, you had the Fricking guy under your nose who has everything in his resume that says he wins, is a local guy, who went to your school, whose three brothers played here also. You don't penalize him for all the stuff in his resume that says "HIRE ME YOU ASSES"

Oliva and any board members that messed this up should go back to doing what they know best, in Oliva's case pretending he is a priest handing out communion to old ladies in nursing homes, and to the other board members who meddled, get a effing hobby like stamp collecting and help the school grow otherwise, not thinking you know basketball because you know most of the rules.

Ok. I'm pissed again. Oldschool, let's rant.

Shit sorry guys, Mike Repole just possessed my body for 5 minutes.

Mike Francessa today (I believe alluding to Mike Repole
I formation) that SJU had enough money for Bobby Hurley and then the school low balled Hurley and offered him LESS money then he is making at ASU
There is a death wish at the top of the feeding chain or a Demonic desire to fail.
We are failing.
Sad.

No worries Beast. I think everyone who actually gives a darn about St. John's basketball has a little Repole in them today.

You know Beast is royally pissed because he's a good Catholic boy who just took a dump on the deaconate with his post.

Beast and everyone on here
I'll (repole) will ask you guys (Francesca, hey what time you guys get off next Friday? Lets go to st. John's and make some noise.
The current student's and professors are welcome to join. Hell repoli might even join, he asked mike yesterday.
Make it a day of unity and let us all be heard (fans, alumni, donors, current m students, and professors).

LOL Beast hof post, I spit out my beer, I haven’t laughed that hard since Hit the gym compared Ronny Linfonte to Paul Bearer wwe manager....

As a former student and someone with something like 8 relatives who have attended St. John’s, I know this. The Vincentians are notoriously cheap and are best at running orphanages, not colleges. I was hoping with the first lay president in the school ‘es history, that might change. Apparently not.
