Q&A - Lavin/Cbssports

Pretty much says it all. Interestingly Lavin is not worried at all about recruiting, as he states that is what he excels in.

For Lavin to make that statement about recruiting he must have a few recruits up his sleeve. He obviously knows something that we do not. How else could he possibly justify making a statement like that about next year with only one recruit signed?

Hope he does, but it has been a Lavin tactic to project confidence about recruiting regardless of what the actual state of recruiting is. Wouldn't expect a coach to do any different - certainly not helpful to be outwardly negative about recruiting - just don't know that it reflects what his ultimate recruiting results will be.

Actually think Lavin generally tends to be more positive/wishful when things are not going well, and more realistic/critical when things are. Last year in particular, it became tiresome listening to justifications for on-court performance and predictions for future improvement. This year, he's seemed more measured in evaluating the team's play, despite the great play and ripping off an 11-1 start.

Agreed SJU 1512, that is how Lavin handles things. It just seemed like more than just trying to project confidence when he says, "It's the least of his worries .." That sounds very adamant to me. I definitely agree with your assessment of Lavin and how he handles things though. You're spot on.

Completely agreed, the certainty in his statement about recruiting really jumped off the page. I hope he has good reason to be and that there will be a lot of good news flowing our way in the spring!

Expect Lavin has learned to recruit players who will be eligible. Looks like he has cooled on Jordan

I love the way he carries himself, but when is the last time he answered a question in under 25 words? :)

nice to see Lavin not mentioning yukon in the revered "Old Big East" although putting Notre Dame in there is insulting to everyone. I first noticed this when he was talking to Donny Marshall and thought it was intentional. Then again here in this interview.

and good to see coach getting into the spirit and quoting Christmas cartoons:

Hahaha Paul! I noticed that as well and was wondering if he didn't mention Yukonn on purpose or if he just happened to forget to mention them. Now that he's said the same teams twice without mentioning them, I don't think it's just a coincidence.

it was even better after listening to Marshal babble on about how great Lavin was and then Lavin disses him ;)

Marshall really was going on and on about Lavin. Said he was underrated and that he was one of the top 15 coaches in the country considering his entire resume. I started to wonder if Donny Marshall's recruitment came down to Yukonn and UCLA. Lavin was an assistant at UCLA during Marshall's recruitment and I wondered if Lavin made an impression on him or something.

I can't wait for Lav to play the victim card about having a short bench after the Jordan leave of absence. Doesn't quite match, "Recruiting is the least of my concerns because that's an area we've excelled." How does this freshman class add up to excelling?

Henderson (walk-on)
J. De La Rosa (walk-on)
A. De La Rosa (ineligible)
Thomas (ineligible)

Kind of glad Lav was not responsible for staffing space shuttle this year. :)
