Providence sends Xavier crashing out of Big East Tournament with OT win

As I said in another thread about this game, "Karma is a ...."

The best part was smart-mouth Maccura missing key shots and committing a charge in OT. He couldn't help himself, he was mouthing off to Diallo before he hit those key free throws.

It is likely 100 percent of our Fans took delight in seeing the Friars Win last night . I know I did . The Mouseketeers were likely thinking too hard about their trash talking Hand Shakes or , who was going to be the Slam Dunk designee after they routed the Friars , like they did against us . A few more points , Xavier is now my most disliked opponent , replacing G Town . I still despise UCONN but, they now play in the minor leagues and are on the way to the Basketball dungeons . Xavier plays hard , bordering on thug basketball . Last night , in the late stages of regulation , one of the Mouses clotheslined Cartwright I think going to the hoop . It’s typical of their style of play plus their trashy mouths . And, I chuckled at Mack’s post game comments for the Media . He said he thought the Machura - Cartwright charging call could have gone either way . Funny , his comments right after the call, caught by the TV cameras clearly show him launching his F Bomb at the Ref who made the Call . Lastly, just a observation , in addition to our Game , the Butler vs Nova game was a blow out . The Bulldogs were done in the first 5 minutes losing 19-0. We ,at least hung tough for the first half , only getting thumped in the final 20, obviously gassed and worn down . I like both, the Cats and the Friars , so I can be happy either way .

Not seeing it. Nova is a machine.

Funny how most hated Cooley and Providence after the curse out incident with Mullin last year now he and his team is championed for taking out our newest nemesis Chris Mack and Xavier. :)

Five straight NCAA appearances & successful tenure at Fairfield, a very tough place to succeed, man can coach & is well respected in Providence community. Gets sore a bit when he loses, but give the guy his due.

It's possible, but I don't see it, either.

I was briefly text messaging with a fellow fan last night after Providence's win, and he was talking about Ed Cooley and how he "loved Cooley's post game interview" and "Cooley would be the type of coach he'd like to play for." I like Ed Cooley and thinks he's rather decent-to-good coach. I also just have this vibe that he has a low ceiling. That's not to take anything away from him, as I'd take him as a coach. It's just something I've felt for a couple years or so. Good job by his squad last night in their comeback win.

By the way, I also told this same fellow fan that Ed Cooley was very, instrumental with those Al Skinner-led teams at Boston College. Cooley was the lead recruiter for or instrumental in bringing in several players (Troy Bell, Craig Smith, Ryan Sidney, Louis Hinnant, Jared Dudley, Sean Marshal, etc) on those BC teams. I don't know whether Skinner taught him in having an eye for talent or it was natural or via good leads. Regardless, he has a keen eye for untapped talent and eventually, gets 'em up to speed and buy in to what he wants to do. Kudos to him on that level.

I do think they'll lose later this evening, though.

Was so happy being at the Garden last night to see Xavier fall. I finally feel like there is a true evil villain in the Big East. And Chris Mack is a d-bag. Funny how both Macura and Grayson Allen got called for charges as they were both driving for tying or winning baskets at the end of their games. Both lost. Both suck.

Hey, it’s a New Day . Villains and Heros change like World Wrestling scripts . Hulk Hogan turning bad ? Never ? Yup ! Andre the Giant ? You bet. Roddy Piper ? Always bad . But , likeabke in his badness .Cooley has earned his spot out of our deplorables . Beating Xavier is his redemption . He is entertaining to watch on the sidelines . A lot like Rollie Massimino . Wright is more button down , also likeable . I even like Ewing on the sidelines . He shows class and it’s apparent he and Mullin have a good relationship . Mack ? The new Dirtbag . Machura is trash too . Jones , etc

Cooley is only fun to watch on sidelines when you can't see the missing patches of hair which reveal what looks like a scalded scalp and freaks me out every time. I can deal with bald spots but it just looks painful though I am sure he is over the pain.

I've met some really stand up people who know Cooley extremely well from his Fairfield days. They say what an incredibly good guy he is. I take them at their word.

On the other hand I've had multiple interactions with Wright over the years and he has done some very nice things for my family, so it's no contest. Two Villanova grads and almost a third, and I root hard for them except when we play them, when I root hard against them as the enemy.

For the record, when we beat them Jay whined at the refs all game - the same stuff Chris gets accused of. Still. Some day he'd make a great big east commissioner.

Would be nice to see big east teams go deep into tourney.

Xavier has always gotten into tangles with opponents, wars with Cincinnati. Don't like Mack or them. Would like to see macura get punched out.
