Providence Potential Bad Break

@jeffborzello: Providence freshmen Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock have been suspended indefinitely, the school just announced.

A promising season for Providence has gotten off to a bad start.

A couple of days after Kris Dunn reinjured the shoulder that slowed him as a freshman, head coach Ed Cooley announced that two of his freshman, Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock, will be suspended indefinitely.

“We hold our student-athletes to very high standards,” Cooley said in a statement released by the school. “We are disappointed in some of the choices that Brandon and Rodney have made. Due to this, we have decided to suspend them indefinitely from any game action.”

The Friars open their season on Friday night against fellow New England up-and-coming program Boston College.

Bullock is a 6-foot-6 power forward from Hampton that was ranked No. 148 by Rivals in the Class of 2013. Austin is a much more highly-regarded recruit, however. A 6-foot-7 lead guard, Austin is a freak athlete that was expected to join Dunn and Bryce Cotton in giving PC one of the most talented back courts in the new-look Big East.

Sad to hear. Not good for the new conf, I really wanted them to beat BC. I still think they can even with this news. Along with our game on Friday I will be paying attention to this one. We need to root for out fellow conf teams, even Gtown. Go Big East teams!

Damn. This is tough news. Dunn and Austin have the highest ceilings on that roster and the league is better off with them playing and at 100%. Hopefully the suspensions don't last too long and both of the freshmen learn from this, and then Dunn comes back 100% healthy.

Wow. That is tough. Imagine having to play Wisconsin without three of our top 9.

It's too bad that so many athletes today just don't get playing by the rules in their off court or field deportment.

The Dolphin , Incognito, has become the new poster boy for being a Punk!

A lot of kids think basketball or football talent allows them to play by their own rules.. Kudos for Cooley for not taking any crap, even from heralded recruits!

Lavin too, has shown his mettle in enforcing team rules. Even to the point of risking winning games and I give him credit for doing so.

Is Cotton hurt also?

He played last year on a bad knee that required off season surgery. He had been fine until just recently, he was held out of the scrimmage against Harvard and played limited minutes in the exhibition game against Rhode Island College, towards the end of his time on the court he was limping pretty noticeably. It has been diagnosed as tendinitis and he probably would not be playing against BC if we had the rest of our backcourt which is not the case now.

Rumors flying all around about Dunn. One says it's day to day, others say it's worse then they thought and he will need surgery, and will see if he can play with pain after sitting for a few weeks or if he has to go under the knife right away which would end his season.

It's never friggin easy being a PC fan.

Thanks for the info. We are very similar teams with much in common.

They'll be back next week.

@KevinMcNamara33: Ed Cooley on two suspended freshmen who are still w the team: "It's still status quo."
