QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2012) – The world-renowned Times Square area in Manhattan is just one of those places you have to check out when you’re in “The City that Never Sleeps.”

Times Square sees more than 500,000 visitors per day and this November, St. John’s basketball will be prominently featured on the American Eagle Outfitters digital display in the heart of “The Crossroads of the World.” The Red Storm signage displays season ticket information for the 2012-13 men’s basketball season and creates further brand awareness for one of the storied programs in all of college basketball.

“Such an impressive display in the heart of Times Square is fitting for a program with the basketball tradition and heritage of St. John’s,” said head coach Steve Lavin. “The Johnnies have always been New York’s team, and most would agree, basketball played in ‘the Mecca’ is as good as it gets. Our intent is to continue building a program that all New Yorkers can be proud of.”

“Since Steve’s arrival at St. John’s, the buzz behind our program has been incredible,” said Director of Athletics Chris Monasch. “St. John’s basketball is making regular headlines, we’ve seen a spike in our media and television opportunities, and our home game attendance has risen at a 40 percent rate and continues to trend upward. To do that in this town is special, and the Times Square signage ringing in the new season will help further promote this program on the rise.”

The display is located on the corner of 46th St. and Broadway, 13 blocks north of “The World’s Most Famous Arena” and the home of New York’s Team, Madison Square Garden. Beginning Nov. 5 and targeting high-traffic dates such as Thanksgiving weekend, the week of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the St. John’s basketball display will be shown in various intervals each hour from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. and can garner as many as 1.5 million impressions per day.

The Red Storm takeover of Times Square will continue throughout the winter months, with St. John’s unveiling additional high-impact advertising in the heart of Manhattan.

Incredible recruiting tool to show on visits.

That's one of those "unmatched" advantages that no other school can boast.

My office is across the street on 45th and Broadway, will check out today after work. I have always been amazed at the lack of advertisement and brand product placement that the school does not take advantage of in NYC.

My best guess is that they don't budget for it, which is a shame.

WOW !!! im in times sq. 3x a week and haven't caught this signage at all. i sure wish someone from the school would get in contact w/ me since i deal w/ newsstand content in the square and also several other signs in the area specifically on 44th st. it would be an honor to schedule some SJU content in our LED screens. VERY GOOD to see this!
