Looks to me like we're tied for 8th.

Put it this way: I'm not expecting this team to win another conference game this season

The effort put forth in the Providence game was tremendous. It really was. But the lack of shooting ability on this team is so evident that it's hard to see ND or MARQ losing to them.

Well, reality has set in and it's another failed season IMO. Everyone can talk about "youngest team" nonsense but when you have the talent to make the tourney, you make it in spite of your experience.

I'm going to put on my blame Lavin hat right now.

His biggest mistake was- Darrick Martin

He needs an Xs & Os assistant coach in the worst way. Hines 'coaching' 2 games exposed that fact. I don't think Keady provides anything. Others in the know can correct me if I'm wrong there.

When we're in crunch time and Lavin is not able to draw up a play, we suffer for it.

I think Lavin wore too many hats this year. If he spent his time recruiting, no one was back home working on player development like Dunlap did. It showed during games. The recruiting failure this year is rather sad. I never imagined in a year where he could focus on just one scholarship, he would struggle closing deals.

It's always next year with this program. I wish I could get rid of my expectations because they always get crushed.

In 2010, I expected nothing. Maybe that's the formula.

Coach Lavin needs a George Blaney/ Mike Dunlap type assistant.

Granted Mike Dunlap was a very good "Xs" and "Os" coach but somewhere in D1 or D2 there is another "Xs" and "Os" coach that can help this team's play.

It's always next year with this program. .

I think next year could be a defining season in the reign of Lavin.
- We get Hooper, Sanchez and God's Gift. Three very nice additions there.
- We get Branch for a full season, and not half a season where he suffered a serious injury
- Dare I say it, we get a more mature D'Lo
- New recruits
- Sampson, Sir Dom, Oblockpa, Frenchie are all a year older, wiser, better, stronger, faster... :cheer:

I, for one, look forward to that.

Who are those new recruits you speak of?

I have the answer. It has nothing to do with George Blaney or Mike Dunlap. If you want a better team, get better players. If you have good players that can't shoot, get more complete players next time. At the very least, add what you are missing. I don't care about adding the x and o king of the world. This team needs something they have never had, going back 50 years. An athletic wing that can shoot. Sanchez and Gift will add the missing bulk needed to even up the battle of the boards. We seem to specialize in the Willie Glass philosophy of recruiting. The athletic, range limited, tweener. We have three in Pointer and Garrett and Jones. We do have a SF with good range and no athleticism in Bourgault. Just once, I want the range mixed with the athleticism. Until we get that, I don't see Sanchez bringing us into the top twenty. We just don't pose that many challenges to defend. Next year, it will be stop Sampson, and you stop St. John's. Let Branch and Greene beat you from outside. Give Garrett and Pointer all the threes they want. Crowd the middle and put a body on Sampson. I don't expect Harrison back. Coach needs to find another scorer, and soon.

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT RECRUITS DO YOU SPEAK OF

All will be revealed in due course. Perhaps a JuCo transfer from Shareem Nechabazaar Inter Coastal Seminary. And there's always the 34 year old Moroccan or the alluring 6'11" Lithuanian without a passport... :p

Have you ever watched Hooper play?

The athletic small forward with a shooting touch you speak of is Jermaine Lawrence. He decided to go elsewhere.

Regarding another poster's assertion the team needs a George Blaney/Mike Dunlap type assistannt......George Blaney isn't anywhere near the coach that Mike Dunlap is. George is stuttering Jim's best buddy, that's it. It is true that the team was more disciplined and executed better under Dunlap. I agree that he is very much missed. The team needs an X's and O's to work them in practice. I think Lavin can manage the games well enough. It's Dunlap's practice planning and attention to detail that they miss.

I have watched the same Youtube video's as everyone else. I take them for what they are (marketing) and with a grain or two of salt.

However, with a name like Max Hooper, his future should be assured.

I have real trouble seeing everyone deciding to stay after this season, not regarding going pro- think only Jakarr could possibly make the jump and even he needs another fully yr to guarantee first round IMO. Based on what I have read, here on the is board and other sources, we are going to have a A LOT of talent vying for very limited minutes. Not saying all this "talent" are absolute studs- but there seems to be a good amount of parity among the team. Say D'Lo 2.0 shows up next November- and everyone decides to come back- wondering what your thougts are interms of pecking order for PT- breaking it down in two groups Forwards/Guards- since we play mixed lineups most games:

Forwards: Sampson/Sanchez/Dom/Obekpa/Amir/Gift/Jones
Guards: Harrison/Branch/Green/Marco/Hooper (shooter?)/Felix

Just seems like a lot of guys who deserve a fair amount a playing time- wouldn't be surprised at all with some departures given the trend in college bball.
