"That's the biggest thing I think in basketball, when you've got five guys out there that can trust each other, and I'm starting to trust my bench as well." - Coach Anderson #SJUBB

"We're not where I want us to be right now. . . If we do what we're supposed to be [doing], then we're going to be where we're supposed to be." - Coach Anderson #SJUBB

"Now we need to learn how to play with a lead, because today I thought we got a little sloppy." - Coach Anderson #SJUBB

Wagner posed little threat, but I enjoyed how we quickly went on the attack, stole their souls by the half and then scrimmaged with them while getting minutes for the end of the bench (a constant criticism last season). I really like Coach Anderson and hope he’s able to recruit his type of players so we can see him employ his style and personality. So far he’s done a good job of winning the games he should while adapting his style of play to this team and figuring out what he presently has and what is available going forward. I have a bit of confidence that this team will compete well (maybe not necessarily win too many more than they will lose) in a month when the big east season rolls around.

Good game from Heron finally 7-11 18pnts, now gotta get consistent and do it vs. St. Peter's on Tuesday. Champ and Roberts with 12 each, Josh 9 boards, Champ with 4 steals. Nice job.
LJ with only 6pnts, and contributed with 6 dimes
Good games from Dunn & Earlington off the bench.

On to st. Peter's.

Only allowed Wagner 19 points in the first half, followed by 18 points in the first 7 minutes of second half. Hmm!
Williams very clumsy handling the ball, still struggling but that doesn't stop him from hustling. Steady games from Roberts and Champagnie. Nice to see Fiqueroa tie his assists reco rd of 6 despite a poor shooting day. No hesitation from Heron today, still commits too many fouls. May have to lay off his man, plays very, very tight.
I like the way coach has the players pass and move rather then stand around.

Wagner is a horrible team. Games like this give players like Heron a false sense of confidence. He needs to work on the things that get him shut out against real teams, like ASU. The only way to do that is to actually play real teams.

Another thing that impresses me with our inexperienced front court
Roberts: 29 minutes, 0 PF
Champ: 26 minutes, 1 PF
Earl: 12 minutes 1 PF
67 minutes, 2PF. Very impressive, even vs. Wagner

Meanwhile a college vet like Heron fouls out in 16 minutes.

Fun game to watch. Efficient and we passed the ball well. Caraher might not have had big game but he sees the court well and I was impressed with some of his passes. Champ just another smooth game.

On the tv they said Roberts was top 15 in the country in rebounds. It's startling his improvement from last year

sometimes playing crap teams are needed to get your confidence back, now have another good shooting game vs. a crappy St. Peter's team, and build your confidence alittle more.

Nice seeing Heron get his groove back. Although Figgy didn’t shoot well , he excelled in other aspects. Roberts and Champagnie are playing so much ahead of expectations. Earlington is very efficient , has nice numbers for averaging about 15 minutes a game. Nice seeing the second unit getting a lot of burn so they will be ready for their roles in BE play and MA can ascertain who will be the go to backups.

Nice easy win with lost of positives. Two negatives are Mustapha's propensity to commit silly fouls and team's propensity to miss free throws. Those two need to be cleaned up before league play starts.

Very good first half. Second has was sloppy and we got outscored like we were in the Columbia game. Heron came out strong and scored 18 points in 16 minutes which was great but the fouls he commits are silly and has to realize he can't pick up these fouls when he is in foul trouble. Heron and Figgy are shooting almost 50% from 3 combined while the rest of the team is shooting less than 25%. When Figgy and Heron are not on the court we need to find more cutters because passing the ball around the perimeter won't get it done.

Overall nice win. You never know what you're going to get in these non-league games. Good total team effort. Seeing so many contribute is not something we're used to.

I thought Heron was too amped by his offensive production and tried to do too much on defense.

While his ball handling is still worrisome for a guard, I thought Greg Williams was moving around much better today. He looked less stiff and willing to dive around for loose balls.

Team played very well in the first half. Their play was spotty in the second half but the margin was never significantly less than twenty and the outcome was never in doubt. My biggest concern about this team is that their free throw shooting is consistently weak. We have shot poorly from the line in seven straight games and have a 65% made Free Throw percentage on the season. This flaw will lead to losses in close games. I believe we should be able to improve on this, but so far we have been getting worse instead of better.

On a separate note did anyone notice a new player sitting at the end of our bench today. He had a dark blue warmup jacket, was thin and tall perhaps 6' 9" (appeared slightly taller than Steere). Is he a new walk on? If anyone knows anything about him please pass it on. Thanks!

Enjoyed the first half but second half defense was not up to the first half; also some questionable passing--too many cross court passes by guards that are telegraphed some of which Wagner got to that will be eaten up in BE games. CMA was on top of the team in second half for defensive slip ups and passing with time outs and substitutions. I like the way he handles the t/o's. He does not waste time but gets down to business with the players (TJ was also involved). Other coaches work the refs during t/o's--noticed Pressey talking with one after a questionable call along with Van.

Frosh Julian was verbal during t/o discussion with CMA--not a reticent 1st year player-looked like he was explaining movement on the floor.

Minutes well spread again so everyone getting good experience before the BE.

Always a great sign when these threads only have 2 pages, means there's nothing to complain about. Appreciate these wins because during prior rebuilds we've always lost some of these. We've already matched the OOC D1 win totals from Mullin's first 2 years. Very nice start to the season.

Also, good to see Heron rebound. Keep at it!
