(POST GAME) Colgate, Sun., Dec. 12, 12 Noon, FS-1

This was St. john'a best game of the season.

The team is starting to come together.

Pinzon is a good one.

Much better rebounding and defense in the second half. Let's keep the effort up against Pitt and get ready for Seton Hall.

Pinzon was excellent today.

I have a feeling Pinzon is going be a Godsend this year. If he, Stanley and Niywe continue to develop we’ll be in good shape. We saw flashes from Wheeler today but need him to be dialed in on a consistent basis. But, Pinzon, Stanley and Niywe all play with a tremendous amount of energy and that bodes really well for us as they continue to develop as players. All in all our best game , still have done work to do though rebounding wise and on the defensive end before league play starts.

Encouraged with everyone's play today, except Soriano.  CMA may need to give him the Wheeler treatment and let him sit for a couple games to pick-up the energy.

Wheeler played well today, he was little to trigger happy on the 3's, but other than that, he was active on defense, active around the rim grabbing rebounds, made proper rotations on switches/double teams.  If he can just do that every game, even if he doesn't score he'll be a positive contributor.

Nyiwe seems to be falling off just a bit, picked up 2 early fouls and didn't do anything else of note after that.  He's gotta at least get in that paint and grab some rebounds.

talking to FS1 after the game, CMA mentioned and preached defense, and mentioned Pinzon and Stef Smith as important bench contributors. Especially happy with the defense, and he said offense will be there, he wants defensive effort.

Was very happy that the team gave him a Birthday present.

Love the fact that we had 18 assists to 6 turnovers and actually outrebounded a team. Don't want to make too much of that as Colgate is not super athletic and was missing their best player but I'll take it. Definitely nice to see some good bench play.

Whatever was going on with Champagnie’s shooting early in the year seems to have disappeared. When he is back to making outside shots like he has been the last few games it changes everything for the players trying operate on the inside. This has definitely contributed to our improving play.

It appears that Wheeler got CMA's message that no energy on the floor means no playing time. He was much better today than in recent games. Pinzon played well and is going to be a very good 4 year player for us.

Overall, a better effort on both ends of the floor. Very encouraging as we get ready to finish the non conference schedule against Pitt. Then, the wars begin.........

Biggest issue was the game went by so fast that I was home before halftime of the Jets game. Where are the endless monitor reviews when you need them?

Busy period coming with Pitt Saturday and Hall and Butler the following Monday and Thursday. Have to win at least 2 of those.

Soriano tied, with 7, for most rebounds. That was in 15 minutes. Also saw him go to the floor for a loose ball and get hit in the face and have to go in the locker room. He didn't score which you said was fine but for that effort you want to sit him out. I think that was a fine effort today.

Good win against a Patriot League team playing without its best player. Kudo’s to CMA for running the table against Low/Mid majors, withstanding several lackluster performances.

Colgate was outmanned and we took advantage of their 16 turnovers. Let’s hope we can continue to turn teams over. Other than one on one isolations, we have not seen enough efficiency in the half court offense to close out games.

A lot to like about today. Great to hang with my 114 buddies OLV72 and Ralph. Most of the guys played well. Aside from the usual guys like Posh Champ and Wusu was really nice to see Wheeler play well. With his length and athleticism this is the way he needs to play his defense in the 2nd half he altered some shots this is the player we need. Pinzon I like him a lot and I liked how Stanley played today.

The upper level heat was below volcano status today even with wearing a mask. The game ended so quickly that I went to the bookstore after to buy St Johns stuff and I was still on the grand central by 2pm. That's a win win.

Now I cant wait to get back to MSG saturday. Been way too long

More so than that, only 11 FTA in the game, total.

That means the refs were letting them play, which I think helps us, in general.  When they call it tight, we have to back off the defensive pressure, and then we don't create turnovers.

Contributions from Wheeler, Pinzon, Stanley, Smith, Stanley and Soriano off-the-bench.  Makes all the difference.  And don't write off Coburn yet by any stretch.  I'd be surprised if his shooting doesn't help us in certain games this year.

I like Soriano and he is after all a college kid. But at 5’8” 72 years old I can simulate his under the boards work:
fail to rebound or
rebound and have the ball snatched away.
Can we order that MLB sticky stuff that screwed the Yankees Cole up?
or pine tar or roisen
lol

I was at the game with my daughter
I think at 1:15 I looked at watch

one of quickest games.  Lack of Free throws maybe
