Post, Daily News -- Lavin expected to coach Sat.

A seven hour surgery!!!!!
Wow, this must have been more involved than what his physicians initially thought. Thank God he is doing well and is cancer free!!!

Itsa good 6 hr surgery depending the doctor could work a little slower do not read into th time as a problem

reports from twitter saying he will miss this game as well

I am a little worried about Coach. Maybe comparisons should not be made here, but a colleague of mine had the same surgery and he was back at work in 2 weeks, and he is in his 60s. Granted, his job isn't as rigorous as coaching in a game would be, but it has been close to 2 months. Maybe they are just being super careful with his energy level?

Forget basketball, I just truly hope Coach is OK and there isn't something that they aren't telling us. it just seems like something else is going on (I hope not). His health is #1 not because he is our basketball coach, but simply because he is a part of the STJs family.

Here's hoping he is stomping on the sidelines during a victory on Thursday!

Without getting too explicit, it could be some complication issues with urination or other things. Some people recover faster than others. Hard to say, but hopefully he gets better and back to the sideline soon. If he's out too much and doesn't come back full time relatively soon, it will hurt morale, player development and most of all recruiting. It is the harsh reality of it. I don't think Lavin planned on recovery taking this long. I too hope he is FULLY recovered and it is only stamina that is an issue. We need you back Steve!

The psychological complications are worse than the physical ones.

Recovery from surgery varies widely.

My cousin had a C-section at age 34 and needed a foot stool just to climb in bed up until a month following the surgery.

And as MCN mentioned, it may be something that requires frequent bathroom breaks or something that could be embarrassing when you're in front of 5,000+ fans.

I believe Jim Calhoun was quoted as saying that it was actually three months after his surgery until he actually felt 100% again.

While you make a valid point regarding bladder control, I am guessing that's not too much of a problem since he made it back to the bench already, hopefully without incident. Any 7 hour surery is major surgery, and obviously he is not feeling well enough to be on the sidelines, or more likely, it takes an awful lot out of him after the game adrenaline wears off.

Get well coach - a full recovery means a lot more to us than Ws and Ls.

Can't assume. People can have recurring issues of different sorts. That is really irrelevant at this point. Hope he recovers and feels better soon. Team needs him out there.

I love our staff and we are very lucky to have Coach Dunlap acting as HC.

But, this team, this program is definitely different without Coach Lavin on the sidelines. They need him back ASAP for many reasons.

7 hours for this surgery suggests a great deal of bleeding. Low energy level due to anemia makes a lot of sense. Takes a good deal of time for iron therapy to kick in get red cell count back to normal. May explain problem. Hope that this is the problem since should be resolved soon.
