Post Article - How Freudenberg got # 20 jersey

Mullin's a nice guy. That number deserves to be retired and I am kind of shocked a player would ask to wear it.

It's like a NY Yankee asking to wear number 7.

I just dont think the number means as much to cm as to us. I mean that in a good way. Mullin admired john.havlicek, which is why he wore 17 in the pros. CM honors everything he did here and the school but i akso believe puts his number secondary to making a teenager from.Europe feel comfortable here.

Amazing Chris can still shoot the eyes out.

A story like this is why i regard cm so highly, way beyond his incredible career

This quote from the article. Never heard of this. Sounds bizarre:

"Because of an NCAA rule prohibiting players from wearing No. 6, 7, 8 or 9 — implemented to avoid complicating hand signals by referees — Freudenberg, who had always worn No. 9 in Germany, had to find a new number."

Here is an article on the rule.

Agree about the number.Coach's number is up in the Gym to stay The number should remain active for other deserving players to wear and embrace the legacy

Chris doesn't seem to mind:

" … It’s been 35 years. It’s a number. It’s not that big of a deal.”

Honestly, I think only huge egomaniacs would really care -- Jordan, for instance. Mullin is too laid back to stress over something this minor.

Maybe in Europe retired numbers aren't as big a deal as here

Either way it's pretty cool that Mullin is so laid back about it

In Syracuse Lacrosse, they have the sacred number 22 worn by Gary Gait and all 3 Powell brothers. It gets passed on yearly to those who are deemed "worthy" for a shot to make it proud. Totally different tradition than retiring it, but a fun tradition.

Wild guess thatMullin banked in the winning foul shot to say i can beat you any way i choose. Still can shoot and still has competitive fire

What was Jim Brown's lacrosse number?
