St. John’s freshman Posh Alexander may very well wind up being the most impactful perimeter newcomer in the Big East. Through three games, the 6-foot point guard is averaging 14 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.7 all while quickly becoming the new face of Mike Anderson’s program. If the Red Storm were a snake, Alexander would the head. St. John’s is 3-0 and will face BYU later today at Mohegan Sun.

I don't know about the metaphor. When I think of snakes remotely associated with St. John's, I think of Francesa

Or Mike Jarvis.

Except of course for the guy sitting behind him, it’s hard for me to imagine guys not enjoying playing with Posh.

Sadly, I thought of the Jarvae as well.

Posh Effect: Alexander Making an Immediate Impact

Coach Mike Anderson has his point guard of the future - and present. Freshman Brooklyn native Posh Alexander has injected a new energy into the 3-0 Johnnies, who meet BYU on Wednesday at 5 ET inside Bubbleville.

Alexander, who hails from Our Savior Lutheran in Brooklyn, is averaging 31 minutes in his first three collegiate games. With senior point guard Rasheem Dunn out with a concussion, it’s only magnified Alexander’s importance, and he’s delivered with 14.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 54 percent shooting.

“He is a dog, that’s the perfect way to describe him, he is a dog,” said St. John’s impact transfer Vince Cole, who’s averaging 16.0 points per game on the season. “Posh does that every day, playing like that on offense and defense is never surprising just because that’s how we play at St. John’s, that’s how Mike Anderson coaches.”

Alexander’s nonstop motor fits perfectly into the “40 Minutes of Hell” gameplan in Queens, with the St. John’s freshman leading the BIG EAST at 10 steals on the campaign.

Between the mix of newcomers Alexander, Cole and post presence Isiah Moore and returnees Julian Champgnie (29 points in Monday’s win over Boston College), Greg Williams and others, St. John’s has the framework to exceed the preseason No. 9 standing in the conference preseason poll.

Love the Posh energy. Guy plays his tail off. Of course, sometimes less is more. Not to get too cliche but I thought the other day about a quote I heard Bill Walton mention from John Wooden. I got it wrong ( nothing new). I also know Walton can be annoying but he has been successful. So I looked it up.

The exact quote is “Be quick, but don’t hurry”. Lots and lots of “quick” in Posh’s game. He’s young. Now you don’t want to discourage him but once he masters not hurrying he could go from really good to amazing.

Starting at PG is as a freshman is quite a challenge for most players, even many elites. Of course there will be a learning curve for Posh and with his non stop style one can expect some errors. His time and situation skill will progress with staff correction and experience.

Offense aside, I am very impressed by his tenacious defense, His high school played a high octane game so I never thought much about their defense, but my buddy JPM114 tells me the HC is very good at stressing/coaching that end of the game. In short sample you can see both Posh & Dylan bought into that philosophy and really get after it on D.

Watching Posh play PG to me at least, is like watching Maradona play soccer. No, he's not an all world player like Maradona was, but they both play like they are being chased by bees and thrive in a controlled chaos type of environment. He's the perfect fit for Anderson's system.

If only he was a 4* recruit our ceiling would be much, much higher... ;) :silly:
