The Jefferson Orange Wave basketball team won Friday's neutral playoff game semi-finals against Long Island Lutheran by a score of 69-62. Ponds and his Jefferson team will meet Aquinas of Rochester tomorrow night in the State Finals. I believe the game will be broadcast live (at least it is listed on Time Warner cable) on TWC Sports Channel (number 323) this evening (Saturday) at 8:30 PM. Should be some replays of it later on.

BTW: Just a note I tried to put this post in the Ponds thread but the thread was locked. Please feel free to move it there.

Mr.GZ
I wonder if Mr.Ponds will be NYS Player of the Year?
That would be a nice touch! We are fortunate to have him whether or not he gets that recognition.

all the best
:)

Someone probably locked the ponds thread by accident. I have opened it but this is fine to stay here. More people will probably see to up here and get a chance to watch him play.

Unfortunately no.

Matt A lauds & encourages Ponds via Twitter to bring championship home. Watching Bembry of St Joe's, I can't help thinking about Ponds in time also becoming a real scoring threat.

Was at his game last night. Uncanny ability to finish around the rim and is equally effective doing so with both hands. Most importantly he seems to thrive playing alongside a pg. Played much better when he wasn't asked to run the show all together and don't see any concerns about him and LoVett being able to play together.

BTW really impressed with Dunn and Greene although I was higher on Greene as youngster, thought he would end up a PG.

Go win that chip Shamorie!

Ponds reminds me of a slightly smaller version of Royal Ivey. Kid will be fun to watch at SJU.

It looks like the sum of the parts will be greater than anyone expects! These two guys together are going to wreak havoc next year. One more wing to go with yakwe and ahmed and.....oh boy!

On the way to the Federation Finals. Hope they can win this.

Jefferson up 37-24 at the half. Ponds with 10 on 5 of 12 in a sloppy first half.

Ponds just picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls within a minute with 14 minutes to go. On the bench. Probably for a long time. Jefferson up 17.

btw 3rd foul was a double foul and 4th was a charge immediately after going macho with the defender who he just had the double with. Some growing up to do.

.... from the above linked article:

"If Jefferson’s title game was any indication of how Ponds will perform in big games during his collegiate career, St. John’s fans have something to look forward to.

Ponds was electric against his team’s borough rival, scoring a game-high 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, all while recording six steals and dishing out a game-high five assists.

And the stellar performance for Ponds came with Red Storm head coach Chris Mullin and assistants Barry Rohrssen and Matt Abdelmassih in the stands."
