He's the player that gives me the most agita. People assume it is because I don't like him, but it's actually due to the high expectations I have for him and how much better I think both he and our team will be when he finally becomes that type of player. I do think he will get it..I just hope like hell it will be this season.

he has 15 offensive rebounds tied with 2 guards Harrison and Greene. The only guy he has more then that plays is Branch and that's because he's played twice as many minutes 604 to 341. Marillac is spot on re Pointer

All I want from him this year is to put a forearm in the opposition's best player's throat every once in a while. Hopefully, he works on his jumper over the summer and he gets a bit more aggressive crashing the boards.

I generally agree with you. I'd like to see both he and Green be a lot more active on the o-boards. Pointer could be a beast and this could really be his milieu. The stat that surprised me was the 2nd in Assists. In particular because he tends to receive the ball on the corners of the perimeter. Also goes to my point about Pointer elevating the team. The offense looks so much better when they are making the extra pass with a purpose. The assist numbers help bear that out.

Assume you would be ok with opponent giving Sheed a forearm to the throat once in a while.

I'd like him to:
handle screens better--which he is improving on, but still has a long way to go. He let Trawick hit a three off a screen where he made the screen seem like a 15x15 fence.
move more on offense--which he is finally starting to do the last few games.
handle and shoot the ball less in the last 10-15 minutes of games
recognize he has a weak handle and only dribble two, max three times
set more screens
limit stupid fouls - 30+ feet from the basket or late in a shot clock when we are trailing in the final minutes
work the baseline on offense
and, of course, rebound the ball on the offensive end

You know I'm joking right? But I expect some physical play against our players. It's part of the game.

I think Sir'Dom has found his niche. He is the dirty guy, and in this regard, makes for a worthy Redman. That said, he was the highest rated of the recruits coming in that year with D'Lo and others, and I can understand Marillac's frustration with him...there are times he looks better than anyone on the floor, both teams. I just wish his brain could be as fast as his body...he can play so so fast, but maybe too fast at times for he does make some mistakes that make your head go Scanners. Still, I have a feeling Sir'Dom will have some important moments down the stretch and tourney, he's such a wild card that way, and I'm glad to have him.

Pointer has incredible vision. He just doesn't have the skill set to carry it out consistently. That's why I would put him on a two dribble limit.

Reasonable.

I think the biggest knock against him, and something that doesn't show up in the stats is, the number of times he gets the ball on the wing with a wide open 3 pointer or 18 foot jumper, and he doesn't take it because he doesn't shoot well, and his man doesn't even pressure him out there. He's a junior now, I can't fathom how that hasn't improved.

So, he shows restraint by not hoisting it up because he isn't a reliable shooter from out there, and you are complaining? There are a bunch of guys in the NBA who aren't good outside shooters. Why not celebrate what he does well, and look at the stats Paul listed? I'm not saying there isn't plenty of room for improvement, but I'd look for other deficiencies besides an outside shot.

I'm a fan of Pointer (yes, he can frustrate at times, but he and Jordan are our best on-ball defenders, by far), but I'd still like to know what that one recruting guy was thinking, ranking him ahead of Harkless. It was pretty obvious from day 1 who the better player was, and it was not even close.

Drive the damn lane then. He has the speed and athleticism. Do something other than stand there while we play 4 on 5. God forbid we have Gift or Chris in there too we are 3 on 5.

Come on beast, you're better than that. Whats the use in having him out there to catch a pass if there is nothing he can do with it AND the defense doesnt have to even go guard him.

Room 112 got it exactly right. We cant quantify the amount of assists our other players might have gotten if they were passing to a shooter, or the % our guys would shoot if there wasnt an extra player hanging around the paint.

Its come to the point where I dont even think Pointer is a good on defender. Watch him closely the next few games. He lets people by him, he doesnt box out, he gambles when he doesnt need to and he commits fouls 40 feet from the basket.

Wait, help me out here, no disrespect (on only first cup of coffee). If you are a poor outside shooter, you can't play out on the wing? If you tell me the guy is a statue, I might agree, but over the past month, it appears we've instituted a motion offense, so there is a lot less standing around, which was persistent early on. Don't we all cringe with Obekpa at the high post shooting the ball? You know, NO, NO, NO, YES!
